Oh where, oh where, can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good,
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.
He had stumbled upon the body while trying to assist a nurse find wounded survivors. It had drawn his attention at once, the hair was unmistakable. It was Marco.
We were out on a date in my daddy's car,
We hadn't driven very far.
There in the road straight ahead,
A car was stalled, the engine was dead.
I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right,
I'll never forget the sound that night.
The screaming tires, the busting glass,
The painful scream that I heard last.
He tried to think back to when he had last seen him. Marco had saved him from Titans and then… he froze suddenly. He hadn't seen Marco since then. A truckload of guilt hit him. If he had been there…
Oh where, oh where, can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good,
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.
He lay there that night, haunted by the death. He was a soldier. He was supposed to be able to protect the ones he cared about! That was the whole reason he had influenced Marco to join the Military police with him! And now… Marco was dead and he didn't even notice a thing.
When I woke up, the rain was falling down,
There were people standing all around.
Something warm flowing through my eyes,
But somehow I found my baby that night.
I lifted her head, she looked at me and said;
"Hold me darling just a little while."
I held her close I kissed her - our last kiss,
I found the love that I knew I had missed.
Well now she's gone even though I hold her tight,
I lost my love, my life that night.
A while later, there was a small bonfire lit and the bodies were burned. He sat nearby, a hand full of ash in his hands. Tears threatened to spill out. It hadn't been his time to die, he wanted to scream. He didn't. He remained in a trance, eyes not moving from the leaping flames.
Oh where, oh where, can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good,
so I can see my baby when I leave this world.
He stood among the ranks of the Scout Regiment. After the death, he had devoted himself to preventing anyone else from dying in that way. In a way, it was a way of easing his grief. It only could do some much though. When a commander came by to check on him, there was no answer. There was simply a broken body in a pile of red. The autopsy result came later. He was dead of a broken heart.
