Warning: My first Loveless fic. Very short; sorry.

Don't Say 'I Love You'
by vernajast

it will never be enough

"I love you, Ritsuka."

No matter what Soubi says, he can't believe those words.

They are weightless. soulless. meaningless.

Alone, the words are just another spell, formulated to entrance and enthrall.

"I love you...Ritsuka."

The words can never convince him that Soubi loves him.

Words are powerful, but not as powerful as certain actions. Away from spell battles and candlelight, Ritsuka lets those actions speak for Soubi.

The hugs he sometimes offers when Ritsuka is upset,
without expecting or stealing anything more.

The smiles that warm his face when Ritsuka acknowledges
how truly entangled their lives have become.

The way he shows up just when Ritsuka doesn't want him
around (wants him around).

The dedication of his heart, mind, and body-inviolate
protection he gives to his Sacrifice.

Soubi's actions say more than his words have ever managed.

"I love you, Ritsuka."

"I know, Soubi."
