Forever My Rose
"When you came to New York, you were my favourite person in New York." Tom sang, playing his guitar and looking at Rose.
"That's a pretty song." Tom's little sister Frances before crawling away to play with Buttercup, who is actually named Carlos Michael. Everyone calls him Buttercup though.
"It is." Rose agreed in a whisper, looking away shyly.
"I'm glad you liked it Permanent Rose" Tom said.
"I have to go." Rose said running off. She ran up to her room and locked the door. She lay down on her bed and started thinking. She remembered when she met him, and how kind he had been to her, his friend Indigo's kid sister. She remembered how much she missed him when he moved away. She remembered when she realized that she was falling in love with him. She had tried for the longest time to ignore and deny it, but eventually she had admitted it to herself.
Not many girls fall in love when they are in middle school - in fact I think Rose is one of the only ones who did. Permanent Rose Casson fell in love with Tom Levine when she was eight and he was twelve, when he became Indigo's best friend. They hung out together at the music store, and became friends.
Rose was devastated when he moved away to New York. She sulked for months, and everyone knew why. If she was asked to draw a picture of New York, she would draw a picture of Tom, standing under a sign that said New York. When Caddy, her oldest sister, left her at their dad Bill's apartment in London and Rose found out that Bill was travelling to New York, she was desperate to go along. She finally convinced him to take her. When they finally arrived in New York, Rose saw Tom. He waiting under a sign saying New York, just like she knew he would be.
She had missed him so much, but she had no idea that he was just as sad and had missed her just as much as she missed him.
