The problem with Gloomberries, is that they look exactly like Dreamberries.

The problem with Pike, is that he likes Dreamberries.

Pike likes Dreamberries a lot.

In fact, Pike likes Dreamberries beyond the capabilities of rational thought.

Which meens Pike's in big trouble when he stumbles into the Gloomberry patch.

Pike was slouched next to the purple-berry laden bush, popping sweet, juicy "Dreamberry" after sweet, juicy "Dreamberry" into his mouth. He picked the bush clean before ambling towards the Holt, waiting for the berries to kick in. He was halfway there when they did.

Pike collapsed, sobbing, a wave of depression sweeping over him, choking him with crazed, suicidal thoughts. He steadily stood up, weeping and shaking uncontrollably and staggering to the Father Tree. Bearclaw happened to be there when Pike made it, and the small chubby elf fell against the fierce chief, his face still drenched with an unstoppable flood of tears. He couldn't make words come out of his mouth, leaving the other Wolfriders confused and disturbed. What could make their sweet, cheerful Pike so heart-wrenchingly miserable?

Several days later, the fit subsided. Bearclaw dropped next to him, worried out of his skin.

"Pike, what's the matter with you? What's put you in such a state?" Pike shook his head puzzled.

"I-I don't know! I really don't-" Pike was cut off by Clearbrook, who entered the clearing with a sniffling, miserable One-Eye.

"I think I do. There's some bizarre Dreamberry imposters in our patch. Instead of giving you a nice buzz, they make you sad... I've never seen One-Eye so gloomy." Joyleaf gave a start, a spark of inspiration glowing in her eye.

"Gloomberries!" She laughed at her own joke. Bearclaw wasn't so amused.

"How do we tell the difference?" He growled, one finger tapping against New Moon's pommel. Clearbrook shrugged.

"They look, smell and taste the same as Dreamberries... I suppose it's just touch and go." Bearclaw grumbled to himself, skulking off in a mood. Now there was something to ruin Dreamberries! Huh...

Joyleaf was positive they were going to have a few more Gloomberry accidents...
