Sergeant Fred Colon was doing desk duty today. He was particularly good at it, since it mostly involved listening, nodding , and jotting down the occasional note.

"Yes Miss?" he asked, his eyes lifting to meet steely grey eyes.

"Vimes. I'm here to see my dad," Sarah Vimes replied. Colon gulped.

"Go on up," he told her. Sarah smiled.

Sir Samuel Vimes, Duke of Ankh, Commander of the City Watch, lifted his head from the masses of paperwork at a knock on the door.

"Yes?" he asked with some trepidation - they might have more paperwork!

"Dad, you have one minute to organise yourself, then I'm going to come in and get your paperwork done for you. Starting now."

"But, Sarah…"

"Else I'll tell Mum. So get moving!"

Vimes really regretted letting his daughter visit Adora Belle Dearheart and Moist von Lipwig. She had that voice, the one that made you want to obey because otherwise hell would be unleashed. He shuddered and started to tidy up as best he could.

When Sarah came back down the stairs, everyone was staring. She smiled mirthlessly.

"Dad hates paperwork - it's just a matter of convincing him to do it. The trick is to have the right voice - and to threaten Mum on him. Mum gets cross when he doesn't do his paperwork," Sarah explained.

There were a few blinks, but the major consensus was to continue staring. Sarah looked at them warily, before fleeing up the stairs.

Vimes was hurriedly stuffing paperwork in a folder when his daughter knocked at the door.

"Yes?" Sarah entered the room with a threatening grin.

"Now, we do your paperwork," she said. Vimes looked at her with undisguised horror.

This was just something to get the creative juices flowing. So, just so you know, I'll be away over the winter holidays (I live in Australia), and as such, I cannot update even if I want, there being no internet on a boat in Thailand.
