I Knew

He should never have made them switch!

I was smiling when he left thinking that he would be back that night. Thinking he would be back telling me the latest stupid thing that Peter had done and that Lily, James and Harry were still safe, well and happy as they possibly could be.

He should never have made them switch!

I fell asleep in our bed without him that night thinking that he had maybe gone to the Leaky Cauldron for a drink that night with Remus or he had lost track of the time. So I fell asleep.

He should never have made them switch!

I woke the next morning to the screaming cries of our baby girl and his side of the bed was empty. I got up to get our daughter and went downstairs. The house was empty. He wasn't there.

He should never have made them switch!

I sat down and was waiting. I was waiting for a sign of him. There was none. Instead there was a large knock at the door but before I could get there Aurors invaded our home. I snatched our daughter from the floor and I told them he hadn't come back.

He should never have made them switch!

Dumbledore came to me. Lily and James were dead and Harry was with his aunt and uncle. I was stunned. I just sat there and stare ahead waiting for Sirius to put his arms around him.

He should never have made them switch!

I asked why they had come to our home and had invaded. They could have just told us by coming in through the door. They said Sirius was the traitor but I knew he wasn't. It was Peter.

He should never have made them switch!

I told Dumbledore. I told him but he said that Sirius had been the secret keeper and therefore was the traitor. I said they had switched but he wouldn't listen. I wanted Sirius to be there, to tell them that he had switched and to tell them where to find Peter.

He should never have made them switch!

I left our daughter with my brother and I went to Remus. Remus was just standing there. He just stared at me and I screamed and shouted. I needed him to come with me. I needed him to tell them that Sirius was innocent. I knew they were going to throw him into Azkaban. I needed Remus to help me.

He should never have made them switch!

Remus wouldn't help. He believed Sirius was the traitor and I ran. I ran and I ran. I reached the Ministry of Magic and I went inside. I went to Crouch's office and I screamed the place down trying to tell them. I shouted, screamed and cursed everyone I could to try and get some answers.

He should never have made them switch!

He was in Azkaban they told me. He was guilty they told me. They told me Peter was dead and a hero. I was shocked. They told me how Sirius had laughed like a madman and that I should seek Medical attention, as I was obviously Mentally unbalanced. I knew he wasn't guilty.

He should never have made them switch!

I lost my temper. I lost it badly. I wanted to see him. I wanted to see him but they wouldn't let me. They chucked me out of the department and I screamed. I screamed as the tears poured down my cheeks. I screamed as I collapsed on the ground. I screamed because I knew.
