So... Welcome to my Frozen Oneshot. Read and enjoy. Be prepared for some deep stuff.
Elsa sighed as she paced back and forth. Alone, as usual, locked away in her room. She felt like caged bird. Unable to fly, permanently grounded. These were the days she just wanted to fly away. Away from all the troubles, out of hiding. She didn't understand why she had to hide.
Why couldn't her people just accept her the way she was? Maybe if Anna's memories had remained unaltered, and everyone knew of her power, things would be better.
But it had been decided long ago that Elsa had to hide. Hide behind a closed door, hide behind a mask, and hide her hands in gloves.
No matter what she'd tried, her powers would not subside. In fact, now that she'd grown older, they'd grown stronger. It was exactly what she'd feared all along.
Elsa had a small way of coping. It didn't work the way she wished it would, but it did work to take her mind off her troubles, cares, worries and fears.
She went to the closet and opened the door. Elsa proceeded to move some articles of clothing aside. She found the large case and pulled it out.
Elsa opened the case, and gingerly picked its contents up. What was in the case, you ask?
A viola and its bow.
She gently rosined up the bow, then moved it across a string. It made an awful, screeching noise. The viola needed tuning. Elsa turned one of the little knobs just a little, then played the note again. It still needed a bit more adjustment, so she did just that.
After adjusting the other strings, it was finally ready to play.
Elsa took a deep breath, and glided the bow over the C string. She hadn't played the viola since the day before her parents had left, about a week ago, only to never return.
She began playing that familiar tune, the tune she'd been taught long ago. The notes seemed to hover and flit around her, gliding smoothly away from the viola, and reverberating around the room.
Right now, her mind was focused on the song. And just this once, she wasn't fretting about her power. The viola in itself seemed magical. It kept Elsa from complete and total panic. It calmed her when she was upset. It distracted her from the cold, desolate world she seemed to live in.
She played through the whole song. She couldn't remember the lyrics to it, but she did remember how her mother would sing it to her and Anna. So softly, and tenderly. Then she'd kiss them both goodnight, and tuck them in.
Elsa wished the song didn't have to end. But, alas, nothing good in life can stay. She'd learned this lesson the hard way.
Everything good in life either had to be taken away, or flipped around so it became bad.
Elsa was putting the viola away, when she heard a faint knock on the door.
She went to the door, listening
"Elsa, please, I know you're in there.." It was Anna.
Elsa leaned against the door. It was a bitter reminder of how things had been taken away. More than anything, Elsa wanted to be out there, by Anna's side. But she couldn't, not even when Anna asked...
"Do you wanna build a snowman?"
At that, Elsa couldn't bear it. She slumped down, curling up, and let the tears roll down her pale cheeks. Of course she wanted to build a snowman. She wished for that more than anything right now. But Elsa refused to open the door.
What went on behind the closed door was very similiar to what was happening out in the hallway.
And that concludes it. I hope you guys liked it, and won't mind leaving a review?
Signing off,
