'Are you all right, Roy?'

They were like stars. Glittering and bright — the lights which hung from the ceiling. To him, the decoration was beautiful, casting a weak but gorgeous surf of brightness throughout the restaurant. Simple. Not too much. And cosy. Very appropriate for such occasions.
Her voice matched the atmosphere: cool and soothing. A tone which made him sigh, prop himself on one elbow and dream. His heart rested, muscles relaxed. For once, Roy Mustang could breathe; smile. The world, at the moment, didn't matter. Whilst it raced, killed, loved, debated Roy was allowed to be free from his heavy, dangling chains.

Irony raked down his back, blood oozing from his numb flesh.

She cocked her head, fringe beginning to irritate her. Her hair long, incredibly bright. So bright even the man would confess — soon — her locks were as bright and as lovely as the candles which crowded around them.
Eyes were dark. Flooded with mystery, curiosity. A lack of confidence.

Yet, somehow, they intimidated him to the core. If Roy knew her better, he would probably find it difficult to look away. He would grow used to this woman's surreal gaze, and train himself to become immune from such tantalising irises. Despite his natural strength to rule, Roy needed guidance.

A hand.

However the girl wasn't her. He had searched for years to find her. Mustang was a fool, desperate to find impossibilities. The girl he looked for was only one person. She didn't and never would have a replica. No one was like her. She was a damaged soul, but, unlike most, her hands weren't reaching for help, love, danger, happiness. She was so numb and broken she had become immune.
It was ugly. Made him sick.

Unnatural.

The crown was too heavy for such a fragile, tired head.

He clenched onto table, nails digging into the wood. Mustang studied the girl, squinting his eyes and then smiled warmly when she plucked the courage to look at him again.
And when she smiled back — so did her eyes.

Roy's heart gave in.

No. This woman wasn't her.

'Yes Elizabeth. I'm fine.'
