Crash and Burn
A lonely figure sat in front of what used to be a building, but was now burned debris. He smirked slightly. The air around him was thick with smog and the sky was as dark as his black cloak. There were a few streetlamps left standing. Others were on the ground; fallen and destroyed. The electricity and fire cracked and burned from the rubble.
It looked like burnt snow falling from the sky, well, that's what he wanted it to be.
The figure stood up, as memories flash backed in his mind.
"Hey Axel, I knew I'd find you down here!" A cheery voice called. The boy running immediately stopped when he saw everything covered in snow. "What happened?" The boy asked confused.
"Hey Roxas." Axel said smiling.
Roxas looked up the sky with large, questioning eyes. "Is this snow?" Axel nodded. "It's pretty cool, huh?" Roxas smiled agreeing with him.
"It's like a whole new place for us to explore…just us!" Roxas yelled running around the town smiling, yelling, and laughing.
"Look at this building! There are snow mounds…let's build a castle or something!" Axel snorted.
"Roxas what are you five?" He retorted. Roxas laughed and scratched the back of his head.
"Please Axel!" He pleaded.
Axel smiled while examining the pleading look of his best friend. "Okay." After a few hours there was a large snow castle on the side of the building. Roxas laughed and Axel smirked proudly.
"That's the best damn snow castle I have ever seen, if I do say so myself." Axel said. Roxas laughed and ran in, throwing snowballs at Axel from inside.
"Oh, it's on!" Axel yelled throwing snowballs back at Roxas.
Axel quickly shook his head, pushing the memory away.
He looked up at the sky solemnly.
"It's soot." He said to nobody in particular. He stuck out his tongue and caught one, just as he had done before.
There was a sting of pain as the memories came back. Both of them holding their heads high; facing the sky with snow slowly falling on them.
He coughed when the soot touched his tongue so gently. It was just like the snow, but with a bitter taste.
and it was just like before, only more bitter.
He just sat there, burning things from afar. Tears slid down his face, over the two tattoos that marked his face.
Axel…what did you do?!
He smiled devilishly. "Nothing, just playing with fire." He said to himself. The memories felt so real, like Roxas was still standing next to him.
Didn't anyone ever teach you not to play with fire?
Axel laughed.
Axel, you could get burnt!
Axel smiled even more devilishly.
He stood up, and walked away, all his memories slowly faded, everything turned black.
He opened his eyes and before him was his best friend. He was fighting with Roxas.
The Roxas I know is long gone...fine, I see how it is.
Roxas remained quiet.
"C'mere, I'll make it all stop!" Axel yelled throwing his chakrams as they fought.
Memories flooded their minds and Roxas was starting to remember. But it was too late.
If you play with fire...you might get burnt...
Axel closed his eyes; he opened them again to see he was still lying there, against the building. He closed his eyes again.
When he re-opened his eyes he found himself lying on the ground. He felt his body start to give away, and found himself to be slowly vanishing. Axel figured he must have been dying. The air was too tight, and his vision was getting blurry, but it was very bright where he was now. Through his blurry vision, he saw a boy with spiky, brown hair kneeling over him, watching him.
"Axel, what were you trying to do?" The figure asked.
"I wanted to see Roxas." Axel choked out.
"You wanted to see me? I'm right here Axel, in your memories." Was Axel imagining this?
Roxas?
"Yeah?"
I miss you.
"I miss you too."
Goodbye.
"No. It's not goodbye I'll see you again, I promise."
Okay then...see you later, partner.
He was headed for destruction from the very start.
Because if you play with fire, you're sure to get burnt.
"Burn Baby!"
