ACT I

"It's over." As he spoke these words, Azula begins to cry. Her world was collapsing around her; her father lay in front of her, dead. Her own brother, turned against her, held his fist in front of his face, ready to send a flame to her face and finish her off, right then and there.
"Zuko." These words are spoken by a Waterbender- Katorla? Katura? Katara? Yes, that's it, Katara- and her uncle simultaneously. She breathes a sigh of relief on the inside.
"No." Iroh says sternly. "Harm little, Zuko. She is your kin, she is your blood. Don't kill her." She breathes a sigh of relief again, but this time, everyone in the room hears it. She is helped up by her uncle and the Avatar, who take her to her quarters and tell her to sleep, sleep the night away; relax, you'll need it.

Despite not being killed by her brother, Azula is put on trial anyway. She is tried, tried and tried again, but she is on trial for only a few days. She is given one week; in one week, her brother will be crowned the Fire Lord. She has one week to prepare for this. One week to prepare.

She is being exiled.

Azula has a choice of nation; it doesn't matter where she is to go, as long as it is not the Fire Nation. The Council doesn't care. She is to be watched every day of the rest of her exile. Iroh says they'll eventually let her back in after a while. She doesn't really believe him, but she doesn't care; she doesn't want anything to do with her homeland any more. Mai and Ty Lee aren't coming with her; they have lives in the Fire Nation, and Azula respects that. She doesn't need them any more; all she needs now is herself. No one more, and no one less.

ACT II

A boy. She meets a boy.
"Hi. I'm Haru." He smiles as he talks to her, welcoming her to their village. She's Fire Nation, but he doesn't care. She's given the cold shoulder by almost everyone because of her lineage, but he's more open to her than anyone else. She smiles. "I'm Azula." She feels a bubbly feeling inside; it's not the I'm going to rip out your guts! feeling she has- no, had with the Avatar. She can't describe it, but she likes it.

He shows her around, how things work. There are still a few Fire Nation soldiers lingering, but they aren't here to manage the village; they're here because they've established themselves here. They have wives and children. They belong here, she muses, as she drinks tea with Haru in his house. He tries to tell her something, but her mind is already out the window and thinking about the rest of her life.
