Derek and Casey were sitting on the steps of their little apartment off campus. Marti was staying with them for the week and she wanted to play in the park across the street. They sat together in coats and jeans, Derek being stubborn and not wearing gloves; simply watching her. She was playing perfectly content all by herself. She'd do a little spin, watching the snow so familiar to her like it was something new, something to marvel at. Occasionally she'd look over at them and she'd smile before turning back 'round.

Casey sighed, it had been so long since they'd seen their family, having Marti with them was a miracle. She was the only one truly okay with them being 'Derek&Casey'. The rest of them, they were, alright. Not overtly objecting, they just didn't come around much. They weren't comfortable with them. They hadn't even gone home for Christmas. But they also knew it wasn't right to keep them out of Marti's life when she had no problems.

She watched the girl do another turn, smiling.

"I hope my kids are like Marti." There's a pause before Derek says,

"You mean our kids." And she smiles a little and leans into him, comfortably fitting into his shoulder.

"Yeah."
