The Moment I Said It

Song by Imogen Heap

The moment I said it.

I was late for potions.

That was why I was running. And that was why I turned a corner into the dungeons so sharply I didn't see the broad, dark clothed chest until I'd crashed into it.

The moment I opened my mouth.

"I'm so sorry," the words came out a breathless whisper, the force of the impact having made me stumble back a step. I kept a tight hold on the stack of books in my arms.

Lead in your eyelids.

My victim stood stock still, jaw tight, eyes closed as he took a deep, steadying breath. Muscles twitched beneath his pale skin as he swallowed.

Bulldozed the life out of me.

His eyelids fluttered open then and I was met with such a striking shade of dark grey it distracted me from the dark circles bruising the skin underneath.

My lips parted.

Draco Malfoy.

I know what you're thinking.

His mouth curved into a sneer, but I already knew what he would say.

He would shout and yell, telling me to watch myself – "you'll pay for this, Greengrass" – his father would be hearing about this.

He'd storm away, but not before sending a piercing glare at me.

But he never did.

But darling you're not thinking straight.

Draco blinked and looked at me. Really looked at me, as if seeing me for the first time.

The sneer curling his lips fell away; the fire in his turbulent eyes died.

Suddenly things just happen we can't . . .

A sigh fell from his lips, as if he were suddenly too tired to argue. He looked tired. He looked awful.

With a half-hearted, "Watch where you're going, Greengrass," he left.

. . . Explain.

He turned and left, the image of his haunting grey eyes leaving me with a heavy heart and a lump in my throat.

A/N: Random idea which set up shop in my brain and would not budge and I surprised myself with it because I usually don't like reading or writing D/A in a school setting. I thought this was innocent enough though ;)

This is probably a little rusty because I hardly ever write in 1st person or in past tense but I hope you liked it anyway.

Song is "The Moment I Said It" by Imogen Heap.

Thanks for reading! :D
