A/N: After reading "Family Holiday" my mom wanted to know why Dean was so obsessed with pie, so I wrote this to explain it too her. Plus it's a nice break from "Freedom is Hard to Define". You don't have to read anything else to understand this. It stands alone just fine, some minor tags to "Dark Side of the Moon" if you tilt your head and squint, no spoilers though.

A/N: 100 words! Yea!

Disclaimer: Not mine

Pie is comfort, wrapped in fruit and crust. That's what pie means to Dean, comfort and family. The smell of warm baking fruit is inexorably tied to memories of his mother. The sweet richness of each bite draws her closer to him, and for a few brief moments he can almost feel her arms around him again. When he eats pie he is four once more, safe and loved and nothing bad can ever happen. Monsters don't exist and mommy will always be there when he needs her. No one knows his secret. Dean loves pie, because pie is home.
