Hikaru and Kauru Hitachiin were walking from their class to the club room. Hikaru suddenly whacked himself in the forehead, "Dang it! I totally forgot to ask the teacher..."

"Hikaru!" cried Kauru in dismay, "Kyoya-senpai will kill us if we're late again!"

Hikaru sighed and said, "Just go ahead and tell Kyoya I'll be there soon, okay?"

Kauru hated leaving his twin brother, but hated being chewed out by Kyoya even more, so he did as Hikaru said and began walking toward the club room. He was just passing by an ornate staircase when he heard what sounded like a struggle and arguing from above. Figuring it was nothing, Kauru continued on his way, but spun around when a shrill scream echoed around the marble-floored room. Just in time, he saw a teenage girl flying through the air, directly toward him. Kauru raced to catch her, and managed to slide across the marble in time to cushion the girl's fall.

After a moment to recover from the shock, Kauru realized the girl looked familiar. they both sat up and set to collecting the myserious girl's scattered belongings. She pushed her long blond hair away from her face and peered up at him with big sky-blue eyes, "Thank you so much... I must have tripped over something... I... uh..." she trailed off helplessly. Kauru found himself to be speechless, for once. No witty quip came to mind for the first time in his life. Finally, he found his voice, "Um, no problem. I'm Kauru Hitachiin." Tamaki would have been disappointed. He hadn't bowed (although how could he when he was kneeling on the floor?) he hadn't romantically taken her hand and whispered one of the many lines he had heard Tamaki use. "Koemi Akira. Pleased to meet you." the girl, Koemi, smiled shakily. Tears formed in her eyes and she turned away quickly. Kauru's heart broke for her, though he hardly knew why. He put a hand on her shoulder and she turned back to face him. Her tears were gone now. He offered her a reassuring smile, "would you like some tea? We're just heading up to the club, er, host club, that is and... well... there's, um, tea. " Kauru finished lamely. Why can't I talk to her?! I talk to beautiful girls every day at the club! WHY AM I SO TONGUE TIED ALL OF A SUDDEN?!?!?!? Kauru screamed in his head.

A spark of amusement lit in Koemi's eyes for a moment. "who's we?" she asked in her soft, lilting voice. "My brother..." before Kauru could finish Koemi suddenly said, "oh! Hikaru Hitachiin, right?" he nodded, and said "yeah, thats right, Hikaru." as if on cue, Hikaru suddenly appeared at Kauru's side. "speak of the devil, and the devil shall appear." Kauru muttered with a chuckle. "Enchante, mademoiselle." Hikaru said softly, taking Koemi's hand and kissing it. Kauru inwardly groaned. Why didn't I think of that? Koemi gave her name and said "I really must be going. Au revoir, Kauru Hitachiin." until then, Kauru hadn't really noticed the slight French tone to her voice. It reminded Kauru of Tamaki. Hardly noticeable, but still there."KAURU! We're late!" yelled Hikaru, grabbing his brothers wrist and dashing for the staircase, and together the twins bolted up the stairs toward the club room.
