Whispers by preety_lady_serenity
Disclaimer: Rei Hino belongs to Nakao Takeuchi, as well as all the Sailormoon characters. Thank you.
Voices, voices everywhere. Whispering endlessly, over and over, about her fate.
"How inappropriate," she thinks to herself as she walks by them.
"Did you hear about Hino-san's problems? That girl has no respect for her father. The poor man lost his wife and then this girl decided to leave the family house to live as a miko."
She clenches her fists into tight punches. Her father is a powerful politician, but what right did he have leaving her mother alone? She watched for the last five years as her mother withered away like a plant deprived of life and oxygen. He never came. He never cared to see what his wife was doing, what his daughter was doing. He said he had no time for trivialities when the fate of Japan was at stake. Trivialities. This word hurt her. So a chair at a politician's position was much more important than her mother and her. Hino Rei despised politicians.
"I heard he still pays for her education," a shrill voice said, not caring to turn to a whisper, "he still sends her to an expensive school, even though she insolently left the family household."
Why should I respect him? That is a question she wants to ask them. She sighs. Why should she respect the man, who let his wife die alone? Her mother died, asking for him in pain, trying to keep alive to see him a last time. And he? Where was he? At a major political party, sliming around for votes. No, Hino Rein did not respect politicians.
"How scandalous," a voice agreed, "Jeopardising her own father's position with her behaviour. Poor Hino-san! How cruel life was with you."
Hino Rei, age twelve, entered Hikawa Shrine, her maternal grandfather's house, her refuge from the scandal.
This short drabble was written for the LJ sailormoon Monthly fanfiction community challenge and it is based on the manga. I hope you liked it.
