Seeley Booth was a happy man. No, maybe happy wasn't quite the right word. He was jubilant. Yeah, he thought, jubilant. Booth smiled to himself as he tossed his keys up in the air, caught them with flare and began to whistle Hot Blooded. Tonight couldn't have gone better, in fact the past few months couldn't have gone better. Sure, it had taken awhile to convince her to go out with him, heck it had taken even longer to convince himself to ask. They were partners after all. Damn good partners, he thought as he made his way down the hall toward his apartment. Years they had worked together, side-by-side, solving cases and helping each other grow. She made him a better agent and a better person. Booth smiled wider at that thought as he stopped in front of his door, unlocked it and then pushed it open. He tossed his keys a small table, followed by his wallet, and then reached over and flipped on the lights. He closed the door, walked further into his apartment and then stopped. His coffee table was filled with picture frames that weren't there when he left. Booth quickly scanned the living room and then carefully approached the frames. They were all of the same little girl. Booth sat down on his couch and let his eyes drift over the pictures.
One of the pictures was Temperance at about age three dressed up for Halloween. Booth couldn't believe this was his level minded scientist dressed up as Cinderella. A smile plastered on her face as she held out her plastic pumpkin full of candy. The next picture that caught his eye was of Temperance on a small bike. Max held on to the back of the seat and they both had on wide, goofy smiles. Booth let his glaze travel and couldn't help but to smile wider as he saw Temperance dressed in pink pajamas bouncing on a bed, pillow in her hands, her hair flying around her face. He could almost hear the laughter in the room. The next photo showed a small girl running through a sprinkler wearing nothing but a swimsuit bottom and a big Popsicle grin. Her hair was up in pigtails and the red around her month streaked down her chest.
The last picture on the table was one of Temperance and Max. They were dancing, and Temperance was looking up with a look of total love and wonderment at her father. Booth reached out and picked up that frame and brought it to him. He knew that Temperance loved her father and this picture proved it. "Ain't she something?" Booth looked up, not startled at all to see Max standing in his apartment.
"Yeah, she's quite the woman." Booth stared at the other man for a moment before realizing that to him, Temperance was a strong, independent woman who set his world on fire. He looked back down at the picture. To Max, however, she was his little girl. Booth's eyes went to the first picture on the table. Yes, he thought. He might be Temperance's Prince Charming, but to Max, he was just some fella riding in and stealing Cinderella.
