The Broken Guardian
AN/ This is something that's been on my mind for a while. I'd greatly appreciate tips on improving writing style! It's currently 1:17 AM right now so Imma go to bed.
The Cell Games, the very words brought back only torture for Gohan, a reminder of his failures, of his betrayal of his family, his father. Gohan still remembered the excruciatingly prideful smile his father had given him before he took away Cell. He still remembered his father's words when they tried to revive him, "Well guys, I can't come back, the Kais decided I have to stay here for blowing up King Kai's planet, plus, I don't think should've come back anyway. I mean, Frieza, King Cold, Cooler, Android 16, 17, 18, and Cell all came to Earth for me, I think it would be safer if I stayed." And then he just left, left his wife and son, and left a pool of self loathing and guilt at the center of Gohan's being. Chi-Chi took it hard, Gohan was actually afraid she was going to kill herself, but then, one day, the news came. "I'm pregnant!" What should've been a joyful celebration turned into another reminder, his brother would grow without a father, all because of him. Gohan boxed it up until he could deal with it, until his mother didn't need him to put on a happy face. He kept it boxed up until she gave birth.
He couldn't help but pace back and forth, his mother and grandfather were in the other room. Chi-Chi had been very adamant about not giving birth at Capsule Corp, despite Bulma's protests. Gohan had been pacing for a few hours now, listening to his mother's screams and groans before a new sound appeared, crying. Gohan burst into the room, a smile on his face, the first real one in almost nine months, before it faded away. His mom was pale, too pale, Grandpa Ox was holding the baby and looking worriedly at Chi-Chi. That was when Gohan felt it. His mother's ki was almost completely gone. He ran over to her as fast as he could.
"M-mom, are you okay?" His mother's reply was a small smile, "His name is Goten, Gohan."
"Okay mom, but a-" His mother cut him off, "Promise me you'll take care of him, alright?"
Gohan's heart nearly stopped, "M-mom, don't...don't talk like that, you'll be-" His mother cut off again, grabbing his hand tightly. "Promise me, okay?" Gohan answered, "O...okay mom, just hold on, we'll get you some...some Senzu Beans and you'll...you..." Her hand fell, her ki disappeared. Gohan's world came crashing down. A single piece of information repeated itself over and over in his head.
"You can't revive a person who dies of natural causes. You can't revive a person who dies of natural causes. You can't revive a person who dies of natural causes. You can't revive a person who dies of natural causes. You can't revive a person who dies of natural causes. You can't revive a person who dies of natural causes. Natural causes. Natural causes. Natural causes. Can't revive. Can't revive. Can't revive. Can't revive. CAN'T REVIVE. CAN'T REVIVECAN'T REVIVECAN'T REVIVECAN'T REVIVECAN'T REVIVECAN'T REVIVECAN'T REVIVECAN'T REVIVE."
Gohan ignored his grandpa's worried questions and stumbled out of the house until he was in the front yard. His legs gave out and he fell to his knees. He heard a scream, a terrible scream, full of pain and anguish and loss and hatred. It took a second for him to realize that he was the one screaming. Screaming in despair in sorrow as the ruins of his life came crashing down around him.
The wall of shock and sorrow slowly crumbled until the only emotion left was just anger. Anger at himself because this was his fault. He just knew that if his father was here this wouldn't have happened. his mother would've healthy or his father could've used instant transmission to get Chi-Chi help, but Goku wouldn't and he couldn't because he wasn't here because of him.
Mind-numbing anger and hatred took over Gohan and another scream tore itself from his mouth, this one of fury and rage and loathing. Gohan entered Super Sayian, and broke past the barrier in an Ascended Super Sayian.
He felt the burn in his muscles and pushed farther, his body screaming from the ki that was literally tearing it apart. Gohan didn't stop though, he deserved this. This was his punishment, his repentance.
He felt his power stop, his body at its max. he felt another barrier halting him, keeping him from the suffering he had warranted, he shattered it and his ki skyrocketed, his screams echoing across the Earth and his power shaking the very planet. His hair was extending past his knees and his scalp was on fire, his eyebrows disappearing and bulging outwards. Gohan's left shoulder, the one Cell injured, was shrieking in agony, it currently being the weakest part of his body. Then it hit its limit, exploding outwards in a show of blood and viscera, tissue and muscle blowing out and an excess of ki fracturing bone. Gohan tried to push further, to punish his body more, but the power just stopped. The infuriated half-breed realized he had floated upwards at some point and was falling. The last thing he felt was white hot fire lancing up the the left side of his face as he hit a tree, before his world went black.
The first thing Gohan awoke to was a wonderful, cool, relaxing feeling in his left arm. He opened his eyes to the white marble floor of The Lookout. The events of earlier came crashing back down on him in tsunami of memories. He realized that someone was healing him and turned his head to the left to see Dende, already finishing with his arm and moving to his left eye. The left eye Gohan couldn't see out because of all the blood pooling into it. his hand shot out and grasped Dende's, "Don't, leave it alone." The half-breed snarled out, surprising Dende with the sheer venom in his voice. "But, Gohan, you ne-LEAVE IT ALONE!" Cut off Gohan. He stood up, ignoring Dende's shocked look and stared towards Vegeta, who had probably been there the entire time. Gohan walked to the Sayian Prince and growled out his demands, "Spar, right now." Vegeta simply raised an eyebrow in answer. "No, you're a wreck, come back when you actually have the strength to throw a punch." The Prince attempted to turn around and leave, but was interrupted when Gohan, already in Super Sayian, threw a devastating haymaker into Vegeta's stomach.
"It wasn't a request you arrogant shit, power up and FIGHT ME!" demanded the child. Throwing out a left kick that was barely dodged by the prideful Sayian.
Unfortunately, for the Prince, he wouldn't power up in time to intercept the deadly Masenko heading straight for his head.
AN/ A crappy cliff-hanger, I know, but it was 1 am when I wrote this so...yeah. I came back in with a thesaurus and tweaked a few sentences so it's not repeating as much.
Guest Reviewer: Yes, Gohan and Erasa will be a couple, but that won't coming for a while.
Jvarkul2002 : Sorry, but I did say it was a darker take on DBZ. Hopefully I'll be able to cheer you up with future chapters!~
Other Guest : Yeah, Chi-Chi is a character with a lot of potential, but I had to kill her off, Gohan needs the push for the future. Unfortunately Gohan and Goten will not be staying at Capsule Corp, though Vegeta will be a father figure to Gohan, he won't interact much with Goten as Gohan is going to try to keep him away from training and fighting. Piccolo will be playing a good part in raising Gohan and helping him through this.
...line break...
I'll be updating later, possibly this week but probably not, as I have school, see ya later!
