Neo Sailor Moon: The Powers Within
Chapter 1: Let There Be Light...Ning
Part 1
"It's her." Luna whispered.
The mall was densely crowded, everyone briskly walking to and fro with either headphones in their ears or cell phones in their hands. Some people carried armfuls of shopping bags, while others walked purposefully while window-shopping. I honestly didn't see how Luna could spot anyone in this sea of people, but I dare not question her spotting skills. After all, she had powers that I, a fresh-off-the-boat Sailor Scout, could only dream of having.
Eyeing her target, Luna started toward the sporting goods store, apparently where the girl was. Her onyx-black dreads swung in rhythm to the movement of her slim, statuesque body as she wove her way effortlessly through the crowd. I struggled to catch up, nearly bumping into everyone I passed and issuing many apologies to the not-so-happy passers-by. After many stumbles and fumbles, I caught up with Luna just outside of the store.
"Are you sure it's her? I mean, I know that not every girl holds the essence of Jupiter, but, come on, a sporting goods store?" I panted. At this point I was fed up with scouting for the rest of the Sailor Scouts, and all I wanted to do was shop. That's what you do at a mall, right? But, no, I have to trek all across the biggest mall in the state looking for someone I don't even know, and spend all this time spying in a sporting goods store. Honestly, I would kill to set foot in an American Eagle Outfitters right now.
"Serena, it's her. Stop complaining, ok? And we aren't going to be here long." Luna said, annoyed.
With this, Luna scanned the scene inside the store. Faintly, I could see the crescent mark on her forehead begin to shine, her eyes turning from violet to gold. I looked around us, hoping nobody would notice a black girl with a shining forehead and gold eyes. When I realized nobody was paying us the slightest bit of attention, I turned to look inside as well. Nothing unusual, just employees in black striped uniforms and a few sports-savvy customers milling about.
"There." Luna said, pointing at the far right corner at the back of the shop. Straining, I managed to see the head of a rather tall girl eyeing a shelf of basketballs. Her hair was mahogany-colored and tied into a loose ponytail that reached the top of her back. Her face, from what I could make out, was serious.
"You mean that girl? The mean-looking one with the ponytail?" I asked, not believing that she would be caught dead in a miniskirt.
"That's where I pointed. She's filled with the essence. Overflowing with it, actually." Luna's eyes and forehead dimmed down, and she now looked normal. "We're done here."
In an instant, Luna was walking toward the food court on the second floor. I had to take a double-take to realize that she was a few feet ahead of me.
"Luna, seriously?" I called after her. Still keeping her pace she turned her head to look at me with that wry smile of hers. As she turned her head back around I started to notice the faint smell of spiced fish coming from the food court. Of course... I thought as I made my way, bumping and apologizing to nearly everyone like I did before.
