Ripped Pictures

Dedicated to all those who lost loved ones on 9/11/01. May god heal your souls, and may peace be with you.
One year. One year to this day that the only one who ever loved me died. Hiiro got up from his spot on the couch and headed out the door picking up something along the way. Hiiro kept walking till he reached the lake, sitting down on a bench he looked at the picture in his hand. A smiling blond with cornflower blue eyes looked up at him, two drops of water fell onto the picture. Hiiro brushed the droplets off the picture, smearing the photo for a second then angrily wiped his eyes. "Why? Why did you have to leave me? Why did you have to die?" Hiiro looked up at the voice. (Hah!! Thought it was Hiiro speaking didn't ya?!) A silvery blond haired girl stood a few feet in front of him her back turned facing the lake, she was clutching something to her chest. She pulled it away from her chest and looked down at the item twin streaks trailing down her cheeks. "Why?" Hiiro got up and walked over to the now shaking girl, putting an arm around her shoulders he hugged her trying to calm her down. He blushed when he realized that the girl had turned around and buried her face in his shirt, he wrapped his arms around her and whispered soothing words to her. Her sniffling subsided after a few minutes and she looked up at him. Silvery-blue eyes clashed with Prussian blue. "Are you alright?" Hiiro asked. "No, I'll never be alright." The girl answered her voice like the soft tinkling of broken glass as she tried to choke back sobs. "Would you like to talk about it?" The girl nodded her head slowly, as Hiiro led her back to the bench that he had been previously occupying. They sat down and Hiiro got a good look at what was in her hands, it was a picture. The girl noticed him looking at it and she turned it around facing him, a picture of a man with black hair and icy eyes stared back at him. "This is, was, my boyfriend, Darien. He died a year ago at the World Trade Centers; he was just walking around, visiting the site. When it happened. My friends have been great to me, helping me through it but I don't think that I'll ever be able to get over it." She started to cry again and he used his thumb to wipe away the tears. The girl smiled and Hiiro nodded which was when she noticed that he also held a picture. She grabbed it and looked at the girl in it. "Who's this?" she asked. "That's Relena, the only one to ever love me. She also died one year ago at the World Trade Centers, she, unlike your Darien, was in the building attending a meeting." "Oh, I'm so sorry." "Don't be, there was nothing either of us could have done." Hiiro looked at his watch and then turned back to the girl. "I have to leave but can I meet you here tomorrow?" "Yeah, sure. Oh, by the way, my name is Serena." "And mine is Hiiro." With that he left. For the next eleven months the two met at the same bench, laughing over jokes, friends, and crying over the memories. They found themselves at the same bench on September 11, 2003. Both of them had brought their pictures, Hiiro looked at the girl that he had slowly fallen in love with, she nodded to him and they both ripped up their pictures and tossed them into the lake. The waves gently pulled them out into the middle and soon covered the pieces up. Hiiro turned to his female companion and she hooked his arm with hers, with a smile they headed off. Four hearts died on 9/11/01 yet two were reborn both with a loss of a loved one still in their hearts but love overcame the sadness, bringing these two together.
