AN: So I came up with this after the episode "A Man Walks Into a Bar…". I thought what Ziva said about wanting something permanent was like the saddest thing ever. So this is it and I hope you like it.
Disclaimer: I do not own NCIS. Sorry.
"I want something permanent, something that cannot be taken away." She said, the tears were now forming in her eyes as she came to the conclusion. She wanted to have something, anything, that was hers. Something that won't disappear. But did she want something, or did she want someone?
Sure she wanted something, he job perhaps, to stay permanent. She was growing tired of switching locations so often, she had to think about which continent she was currently on. She wanted something stable, but she also wanted someone permanent. She understood she was getting older and she wanted to settle down. She had taken the liaison position with Mossad in hopes to settle down in America. She wanted someone to come home to at night. She wanted someone to cook dinner for, to curl up on the couch and watch a movie with, to lie down at night and snuggle up beside them. She wanted the American dream. She wanted that little house with the white picket fence. She wanted two kids running around the yard. She wanted to have that life.
But she was afraid. She was afraid of her own knowledge, because from what she knew, nothing was permanent. One day or another, what you have will eventually be taken away from you. Someday, everything will be gone. But she also knows that some things last a lifetime.
One thing she knows she will have for the rest of her life is family. No, Eli David is no longer part of her family. Her family is the people who risked their lives to save her, the ones who will always have her back. Her family is her team. Her father is now Leroy Jethro Gibbs. He became the dad she never had. Abby has become her sister, the one who you can't help but love. McGee is her sweet older brother, always looking out for her. Ducky has become like a grandfather, telling her stories and giving advice. Palmer has become the strange cousin that you eventually learn to love.
But Tony, Tony doesn't fit into a mold. Tony may just be the one thing that she will always have; even if she doesn't necessarily want him to be around. He was there to save her from Michael, even though she pushed him away. He was there when Roy was dying, being poked and prodded so they could sneak out to the garden. He was there when she was strapped to a chair in Somalia in desperate need of rescuing, risking his and McGee's own lives to save hers. Tony was the one thing that she knew, may not be permanent, but she knew she would have for at least a life time.
