Disclaimer: I do not own Stargate or any of its characters. The only thing I own is my character Adolfina!

AN: I'm pushing the timeline of Stargate up to 2006 so that it matches up with the timeline of USUANAGUY's story Twilight Saga: Meteor shower/Solar Flare. This story won't have any crossover with their story but my continuation story 'The Apprentice: SG-1 Series' will! So the first movie will happen in 2006 instead of in 1994.

The Apprentice

Chapter One: A New Life

~(^.^)~

2002, New York City

I was walking down the street trying to avoid everyone. So far I hadn't been having the best day, and I was in no mood to deal with people today. I'd just gotten kicked out of the small dinky little hotel I was staying at by a really nasty pervy old man, and I was having no luck finding a job. At the age of 14 it's hard to find any type of work, or even a place to stay; especially when you're all alone.

I sighed and kicked a small rock into the street as I stuck my hands into the pockets of my jeans. Suddenly I heard shouting. I looked into the alley to see two men with knifes surrounding another man with shaggy brown hair, and glasses. I sighed.

"I said give us your money," One of the men with knives exclaimed.

I shook my head, causing the ends of my short spiky red hair to flair into my face, and walked into the alley. I wasn't about to stand around and let someone get robbed.

"Hey why don't you pick on someone your own sizes," I shouted, stopping a few feet away from them.

"But out kid, before you get hurt," One of the men shouted.

"No how about you back off, and I won't break your arm," I stated, scowling.

The men chuckled. The problem with being five foot nothing, nobody ever took you as a threat. But that was their mistake. My dad had been a marine and had taught me every fighting technique he knew. Including how to use a person's own size and weight against them.

"Oh, yeah that's a good one," One of them said.

I could already see were this was going. There's no way they're going to back down, not until I hurt one of them.

"All right fine but you asked for it," I said, shrugging my shoulders.

I quickly reached out; grabbed one of the men's wrist and twisted his wrist, causing the knife to fall to the ground. I jabbed him in the shoulder then his gut, then twisted his arm around, and flipped him over my shoulder and onto the ground.

"Now do you want to end up like him, or do you want to leave?" I asked, glancing over at the other man.

The man looked from me to the man on the ground, then to the guy with the glasses, then he took off running.

"Smart man," I muttered.

Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my thigh, and I looked down to see the man I'd flipped had grabbed the knife and had stabbed me in the thigh. I scowled, and took a step away from the man, and yanked the knife out of my leg and tossed it to the side. I glanced over the wound for a second, thankful that he didn't hit an artery.

"Leave now or I really will break your arm," I stated.

The man growled and jumped up. He dashed at me, but I ducked to the side, avoiding the fist he flung at me. I felt a twinge of pain in my leg at the movement. When he turned around I smashed my hand upside his chin, and he fell backwards. I could hear his teeth clink together from the force of my blow. I grabbed his arm and twisted it, hearing the sickening pop of his arm popping out of its socket. He fell to the ground with a cry of pain, then jumped up and ran down the street. Serves him right! I turned back to the man with the glasses and looked him over. He appeared unharmed, although he did seem a bit frazzled.

"You okay?" I questioned.

"Yeah, I'm… I'm fine," He stuttered.

"I'm Adolfina," I introduced, holding my hand out to him.

"Ugh, Daniel," He replied, shaking my hand.

He looked down at my leg, and I looked down to. The wound on my leg was bleeding sluggishly, and I could feel pain radiating up and down my leg.

"You're hurt," He stated.

"It's really not that bad," I denied, shrugging my shoulders.

I knew this was a lie though. It hurt like hell, and was bleeding badly, not to mention I didn't have anywhere to go where I could clean it up and bandage it. But I've always been a stubborn person, and after my parents died I didn't rely on anyone but myself. So, it was second nature to me to play off any injuries and take care them myself. I wasn't about to ask anyone else for help, not when I could do it myself.

"Are you sure, it looks pretty bad?" Daniel questioned, glancing at the wound with worry.

"Yeah, I'm sure, it's just a flesh wound. I'll be fine," I replied.

Daniel looked at me skeptically, and I knew he wasn't going to believe me for one second. I might be a great actor, but he could clearly see that it wasn't 'just a flesh wound'.

"Okay so maybe it hurts a little bit," I conceded.

"You need to go to the hospital to get that looked at," Daniel stated.

I shook my head. I have hated hospital's ever since I spent my eleventh birthday sitting in a hospital room waiting to find out if my parents were going to live or die.

"No, I don't need to go to a hospital. I'll be fine," I replied stubbornly.

Daniel sighed exasperatedly. He must have realized from the tone of my voice that trying to get me to a hospital would be a waste of time.

"Well, you should at least call your parents, so they can come get you and take care of that," He said, motioning towards the wound on my leg.

"Can't," I muttered, leaning against the alley wall.

I crossed my arms and glanced down at the ground. Daniel must have mistaken that as meaning I didn't have a way of calling them, because he pulled out a battered flip phone from his pocket.

"Here you can borrow my phone," Daniel replied, holding out his cell phone.

I glanced at the offered phone and bit my lip. Did I really want to tell this stranger that my parents were dead? I glanced up at him, and he looked genuinely worried about me. It surprised me. Since my parents died nobody else has worried or cared about me.

"I… um…I mean I can't… be… because they're dead," I stuttered.

"Oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean to…"

"No, it's okay you couldn't have known," I cut him off, shaking my head.

He seemed lost for words, and awkwardly put his phone back in his pocket.

"Well I don't want to just leave you all alone with an injury like that… Um, how about you come up to my hotel room, and I can clean the cut and put a bandage on it," Daniel offered.

I eyed him skeptically, not sure if I should trust him. He seemed honest, and pretty harmless. I sighed. Honestly, the thought of not having to worry about figuring out how I was going to get it cleaned and bandage sounded great.

"Alright, sure," I replied finally, shrugging my shoulders.

February 2003

I glared at the screen in front of me, trying to remember the answer to the question. I knew I knew this! Daniel and I had gone over it several times. The problem is, I'm just absolutely horrible at math! I groaned and decided to just click on the first answer provided.

I was currently sitting in an empty computer room in a school not far from Daniel and I's apartment. I was taking a test to get my GED, but the test had to be taken in a school, so here I was. Daniel was waiting for me in the school office. So far I'd taken the English, history, and science part of the test and was currently taking the math part.

I couldn't help but think back to that day almost a year ago when I'd first met Daniel. Saving him had been one of the best things I could have ever done. After saving him he'd helped me patch up my leg, and then had proceeded to try and call social services. I'd threatened to run away if anyone tried to put me in any kind of home. It took him several weeks, more like two months, but eventually he was able to become my foster 'parent'. Honestly though he was more like my big brother.

After finally becoming my foster 'parent' he started to teach me about ancient cultures and about different languages, and I just absorbed it all like a sponge. I refused to go to any kind of school, so Daniel had been teaching me the things I would need to get my GED. Which is what lead to my being here in this school today.

I only had a few more questions left before I was finished with the test all together, but it would take a week for my results come in. I was pretty sure I'd passed all my other tests with flying colors. The math test I was probably going to pass as well but just barely, so I took my time on the last five questions. Soon enough I was finished, and a teacher was leading back into the office to where Daniel was sitting.

"So how do you think you did?" Daniel asked as we walked out of the building.

"The math section gave me some trouble but other than that I think I did pretty good," I answered, shrugging my shoulders.

A week later my suspicions where proven correct. I'd passed with flying colors in English, science, and history, and had just barely pasted the math section of the test. Daniel took me out for ice cream after we got the results, and shortly after that I started taking online courses in chemistry, and history. I was aiming to get my own degree in ancient history just like Daniel…

October 2005

"I'm so proud of you Adolfina! Only two years and already you have a masters in Ancient History," Grandpa Nickie gushed, hugging me tightly.

I smiled and hugged him back. It had been a couple months since I'd last seen Grandpa Nickie. Him and Daniel had had a falling out after Daniel published his paper on the Egyptian Pyramids. Grandpa Nickie hadn't believed Daniel's theories just as Daniel didn't believe Grandpa Nickie's theories about the crystal skull.

I staid the hell out of it! I refused to let the two of them bring me into their argument. I'd been working as Daniel's apprentice since I'd gotten my GED while also working on my degree. So I'd been helping Daniel on his paper for some time. I'd also loved hearing Grandpa Nickie talk about his adventures, especially his adventure with the crystal skull. It irritated me that neither one was willing to admit that the others theory/story could be true. I honestly wanted to smack the both of them.

So it was nice to see him once more. I'd missed him over the past several months. Daniel had refused to come along with me when I said I was going to visit him. But that hadn't deterred me from coming to see him in the slightest.

"Thanks Grandpa Nickie. I've worked so hard on it, and Daniel's been helping me out with it," I replied.

Grandpa Nickie scoffed slightly at the mention of Daniel, and I rolled my eyes.

"Come on Grandpa Nickie, you and Daniel really should make up already," I stated, shaking my head.

Grandpa Nickie scowled and sat back down in his seat, crossing his arms. I sighed and sat down in the seat next to him.

"You two are way to stubborn for your own good, you know that!" I grumbled, leaning back in the seat.

We sat there in silence for a few minutes before it became unbearable to me.

"All right, I won't mention Daniel or your fight again during this visit. But can we please talk about something, this silence is killing me," I quipped.

Grandpa Nickie chuckled at this and nodded his head. We spent the next three hours talking about anything and everything we could think about. It felt good to spend some time with Grandpa Nickie again, and I made a promise to myself to come and see him more often. I also made a promise to myself to try and get Daniel to make up with him. Even if that meant I had to guilt trip him into it.

But for now I decided I needed to focus on the paper that I was writing about Ancient Mayans and their civilization. Daniel had been helping me with it, and I was excited to have my very own paper published soon. Although it was still going to be another couple months before It was ready to be published.

I wasn't the only one who was excited about upcoming events. Daniel was preparing for a speech he was going to be giving in August about his paper about the pyramids. I was just hoping that nobody was going to throw any food at us during the lecture. The academic community had made it very clear how they felt about Daniel's theory. But that didn't deter Daniel, he was determined to try and make them all see things his way. I couldn't help but feel as if this one lecture was going to change our lives forever…
