A girl walked up to the door of the school. She swallowed hard, a trickle of sweat dripping down her brow. Her hair was a purple tint, with two highlights, one pink and one a brighter purple, on the left of where her hair parts. She grasped her textbooks tightly in front of her chest, nervously scanning the building up front, as if trying to find a sniper ready to fire. The breeze gently tickled the bare thighs beneath her violet skirt. The shiver made her shrink, a small squeak emanating from her mouth through clenched teeth. A younger boy next to her, a little more than a head smaller than the girl with green hair, violet hoodie and matching purple headphones, tapped her in the shoulder, making her jump with a wail of excitement.
"Come on, Twilight. Get it together!" The boy urged in a slightly raspy, boyish voice, apparently impatient with his friend's indecisiveness. The girl, Twilight, regained her composure and giggled nervously.
"Oh... I'm sorry, Spike." She said in a soft, sweet voice, a bit meekly. "It's a new school, and I don't want to make a bad impression."
"Twilight, I've been your friend for years now, and I know for a fact that you have nothing to worry about!" The boy, Spike, patted Twilight lightly on the back before slipping his hands inside the pockets of his hoodie. "You'll do fine, I promise."
Twilight sighed and readjusted her skirt in embarrassment, taking the time to also slightly readjust her glasses. "I tell myself that over and over, but... I'm just not so sure."
"Come on, Twi! Just go in!" Spike urged again, this time with a friendlier tone in his voice. "What could possibly go wrong?"
Twilight sighed and a small smile crept across her face. Spike was right. It was nothing more than a new school in a new town. Not much could go wrong from here on in.
"I suppose you're right, Spike." she replied. "I'm just a bit nervous is all."
"A bit nervous?" Spike raised an eyebrow and scoffed playfully. "Understatement if I've ever heard one." Spike then grunted and groaned as Twilight softly mussed his hair.
"Alright, alright, enough fooling around." Twilight admitted. "If we don't hurry, we'll miss our next classes."
"Agreed."
Spike and Twilight slowly made their way up the steps of Ponyville High, their new school. As Twilight and Spike reached the top of the steps and the doors were gently opened, the two friends looked at each other, smiles on their faces and hearts full of hope.
"I'll see you after school, then." Twilight spoke to her younger buddy. Spike chuckled.
"Alright, then. See ya later, Twi."
The two parted ways down separate divisions of the hallway, ready to begin their new school lives.

(A/N: God this chapter was disgustingly sentimental. Ah well, things'll shake out in the next installment. Anyways, here's my very first My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fanfiction, based in a High School AU with human characters. My buddy PirateLordRidley, whom I will just refer to from here on in as PLR, will be drawing illustrations for each chapter, which I will link to on my journal. Hope you enjoyed this, and chapter one is on its way!)
(I do NOT own My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It and all related materials belong to Lauren Faust, Hasbro, Studio B and Top Draw Animation Studios. Please support the official releases by buying the merchamdise when it becomes available in your area.)
