A/N: An LoTR poem, based off the scene in the movie where Pippin and Merry stole Gandalf's dragon firework and set it off, and written for A Prompt a Month, January 2014 contest. It's hosted on The Poetry Craze, link on my profile for anyone who's interested in a poetry challenge.
A Bursting Display
What was so great anyway
about those little lights
bursting into the sky
like a thousand little moths
aflame?
They weren't children, content
to just run amuck in the fields
chasing butterflies,
trembling – at the mere thought
of the dragon's roar.
They thought themselves brave
enough for such a sound
that had sent far braver souls
to their doom
And fortunate they are indeed
that, fool or traveller or squire to the king,
they've never heard that roar.
