I'll never forget that day
We were going to my grandma's house
And when we got there, she said, "Sit right here,"
"I want to tell you a story that I'll think you'll like
It's about a son I had,"
I didn't like that story
For it was far too sad
And as she sat there, telling me
Of all his trials, and heroic journeys
I noticed a tear fall from her eye
That's when I knew, by the end of the tale
He would die

So what does it mean to be a Jedi?
Does it mean that you'll do what's best for everyone
And never long for what you lack?
Does it mean the choice between sacrifice
And loving without holding back?

Who was this uncle that I never met?
With all the heroes of their time who went before him
And followed after him, and died in combat
How come thoughts of them didn't make me as upset?
I guess it's cause they're not a part of me
I guess it's not a problem
Because for them I couldn't grieve
And then she told me, of another one who fell
She said there was a bitter time, when their life was a living hell
I noticed my grandpa, looking grave
That's when I wondered, did my uncle know?
That his father had forgave

Is this what it means to be a Jedi
Does it mean to give up all your fear
And let all your anger go?
Does it mean never saying what they'd like to hear
But telling them what they need to know?

My great uncle's legacy
Is living on today
I wonder, is this right for me?
Is mine the Jedi way?

I know what it means to be a Jedi
And I know you were a warrior
Who fought with all his soul
I know that although you're not here
You somehow made me whole

And when I saw, that's when I knew
That you'd always be there, just to make sure
That I went on to become a Jedi, too.
