Britt: This takes place during the last night of Episode 5. As a poet, I don't often write outside of occasional dialogue. I wanted to see how condensed I could make a story on my own, this was the result. This project was purely experimental.
Summary: The rain wasn't just happening outside, but between them as well. An unearthly calm, just like the eye of a storm.
Storm
"Max, are you…"
"I'm fine, Chloe."
"No, you're not."
"Yes, I am."
"Max…"
"…"
"Max!"
"I said I'm fine! I'm... Fine…"
"Damn it, you're not… You're shivering."
"I'm just cold, Chloe. Our clothes are soaked and there's no way to dry them off."
"It's not raining inside the car genius, I know… I know you've been crying all night."
"I've killed so many people."
"No, you didn't do that, if… If anything... I did."
"Chloe…"
"No Max, face it… I am… Shit... I'm the one to blame. I really am. I cheated death and fucked up everything because you're too good of a friend to just let me go die with a bullet in my head."
"You were shot in the gut, Chloe. I don't… I mean, Jesus... If I saw that again, I don't know what I'd do."
"Max, look at me."
"…"
"Fine, just listen to me then, I... I'm here, right now. It's going to be okay. Tomorrow we can gas up and go see your parents at their house, okay? We can get you back into school some place else… We can start over. We just need make it through the night."
"I really don't know if we can do something like that, with everything gone, and all."
"We can, but you've gotta stop crying first."
"I love you, Chloe, and that scares the shit out of me. Look at this! Look at everything I've done!"
"Its hella fucking obvious that you do, why else would I be alive? But… Max… I'm not… Look, I'm not the kind of person you should be crushing on. I'm probably only going to hurt you, or I'm not good at this whole romance thing. I've never... Rachel and I, I mean we were close, okay closer than close... It's just that, when you get down to it, maybe we just weren't close enough. Maybe that really was my fault. I can't help thinking she's dead because of me."
"Then be someone who won't hurt me. It's what your mom would want."
"A lesbian? Get real."
"A person who can be happy! Chloe, ever since your dad died, you've been spiraling down into a depression. You may think you're okay, and that you can act fine and happy, but everyone sees the truth. They're not blind. They know… I know…"
"Knew, past tense. They're dead, Max. They're all dead."
"Your mom wouldn't care who you were with, she was cool like that. She just, didn't like that you... You seemed so unhappy all the time."
"Either way, I can't promise you that I won't fuck up…"
"Tell me you'll try. That'll be enough. Promise me, no more guns, or drugs, or being reckless, or breaking and entering."
"Oh, come on, if I didn't do any of that, I wouldn't have any fun at all."
"Chloe…"
"Kiss me. If you love me like you say you do, it should be easy for you, right?"
"You backed away last time..."
"You brat, I'll kiss you then."
"If you do that, you'll be stuck with me."
"That's cool Max, I can square with that… And… I'll try to be the person you need me to be. We're in this together, you and me."
