I wrote this some time last year, and only came across it in my notebook recently. I thought it was alright, so I decided to let others read it.
Tawnypaw sat down on the edge of the Thunderpath, staring across at ShadowClan territory. She sighed, and as she raised her patched muzzle to the starry sky she thought of her father, Tigerstar.
I wait for the postman
To bring me a letter
And I wait for the good Lord
To make me feel better
And I carry the weight of the world on my shoulders
Family in crisis that only grows older
Tawnypaw was sick and tired of how she and Bramblepaw were being treated as outcasts. If Tigerstar had never left, none of this conflict would have happened. Surely he couldn't be fully evil, like everyone thought.
Why'd you have to go?
Why'd you have to go?
Why'd you have to go?
Daughter to father
Daughter to father
I am broken
But I am hoping
Tawnypaw wondered if Tigerstar might repent his ways. Maybe he'd take some pride in his new Clan, and leave ThunderClan alone.
Daughter to father
Daughter to father
I am crying
A part of me is dying
She hated the shadow hanging over her. Couldn't her Clan accept her for who she was, rather than who her father was?
And these are
These are
The confessions
Of a broken heart
Of a broken heart
Tawnypaw scuffed the ground angrily with a forepaw. No one, not even Bramblepaw, could truly understand how she felt.
And I wear all your old clothes
Your old polo sweater
And I dream of another you
She wished Tigerstar was just some ordinary cat. Then they could be a real family, and she wouldn't have to live an over-shadowed existence.
One who would never
Never leave me alone
To pick up the pieces
Daddy to hold me
That's what I needed
Tawnypaw couldn't admit it, but she wished Tigerstar had shown more emotion towards her. She was his daughter, for StarClan's sake!
So why'd you have to go
Why'd you have to go
Why'd you have to go?
Daughter to father
Daughter to father
I don't know you
But I still want to
Yes, Tawnypaw wished she knew her father more. She clung to her one strand of hope - he couldn't be all that bad.
Daughter to father
Daughter to father
Tell me the truth
Did you ever love me
Did Tigerstar love her? Tawnypaw doubted it. She'd only ever met him once, after all.
Cause these are
These are
The confessions
Of a broken heart
Of a broken heart
Tawnypaw felt like she was being torn apart. She loved Bramblepaw and Goldenflower, but she didn't want to go back to ThunderClan. Even her own mentor, Brackenfur, was wary around her.
I love you
I love you
I love you
I….
I love you
Maybe… she thought. Maybe she could get away from it all. Maybe she could leave ThunderClan.
Daughter to father
Daughter to father
I don't know you
But I still want to
Excitement prickled her paws. She could leave ThunderClan and join ShadowClan! Tigerstar would be delighted, and she wouldn't have to worry about her uncertain loyalty to ThunderClan.
Daughter to father
Daughter to father
Tell me the truth
Did you ever love me?
Did you ever love me?
But would Tigerstar really accept her into the Clan? Other doubts crept into Tawnypaw's mind… what about Bramblepaw?
These are…are
The confessions
Of a broken heart
No, Tawnypaw decided. She'd stay here - here with her birth Clan. She stood up and padded back through the thick undergrowth - but she was unable to resist a glance back at ShadowClan territory.
Ohhh…yeah
I wait for the postman
To bring me a letter
