Chapter 1: A New Beginning
Nash McConnell worked alone for now on. Nash was a tall, muscular man with light brown hair. He grew up in Los Angeles and never left. He had been serving the LAPD since he was 18 which seemed like such a long time ago. He started in 1930 it was now 1947 and things have changed. Nash missed the old ways but now since the war's over and everyone's coming home it could mean a change in the LAPD.
He was a Homicide Detective in the LAPD, and his former partner Ted Rossi had just been arrested for taking bribes. Nash had no knowledge of it until Capt. Donnelly told Nash why his partner didn't show up the next day. Apparently Ted and another Homicide Detective Floyd Rose were taking bribes and were corrupt. The difference was Floyd took early retirement while Ted took the fall.
Nash, Ted, and Floyd and his partner Rusty had all been friends for a long time having shared drinks every night at their favorite bar. Nash had known them for five years ever since he started Homicide. Nash had trusted Ted and considered him a role model and now this, Nash didn't take it well. Nash had barged into Floyd's home and confronted him about Ted's fall. Floyd denied it and said he had no idea what happened. Nash responded with a swift punch in the jaw. Floyd was a corrupt punk and he got what he deserved.
Nash had stayed in Homicide but didn't take up a new partner. He would instead give the new guy Cole Phelps to Rusty. Nash didn't want a new partner but neither did Rusty so they pulled straws, Rusty lost. Nash was now on his own and would solve cases alone until some new guy came in. Nash didn't mind working alone in fact he quite enjoyed it. Captain Donnelly didn't mind it because Nash was a good case man.
Nash sat in the briefing room waiting for his next assignment. Rusty sat in front of Nash and started a conversation. Rusty and Nash managed to stay friends even after the uncovering of their partner's corruption. Rusty and Nash were playfully joking about how Rusty has to work with the new guy. His new partner was war hero Cole Phelps who had just been promoted from Burglary.
Captain Donnelly walked in and the whole room went silent. Captain Donnelly was both feared and respected throughout the department. Donnelly respected Nash and Rusty for being smart and non-corrupt like their previous partners.
Donnelly spoke. "Nash we got a poor soul who looks to be shot twice in the chest over up at Hotel Bristol. The man seems to have ties with the Mafia, go there and see what happened to the man."
Nash got up and walked out of the room. On his way out he bumped into a man who had his chin held high and looked like he owned the place. After looking at the man a second time Nash recognized him as Cole Phelps, Rusty's new partner. Nash just laughed to himself and walked downstairs to the outside.
He got into his grey Plymouth Sedan and drove to the crime scene.
