On top of everything that happened at the end of admiral Zhao's great siege In the north, Sokka, the teenager who would someday become a great warrior just like his father, has only dreamed of the girl whom he lost that night.
The breeze springs smooth and soothing feelings in the horizon. Creating a melodic symphony in the air. Petals of white soar fluidly and flawlessly dropping on the damp ground. The figure who is just sitting flat on a rock, staring at his own gloomy reflection, his thoughts completely placid but synced with bitter sadness for it is the anniversary of his girlfriend turning into the moon.
His sister Katara, is lurking around the forest looking for his elderly brother. Its so quiet that you can only hear her soft breathing and the sounds thousands of crickets chirping gradually. The sight was dark and she can barely see without the moon's glowing shine because of the massive storm clouds covering its lunar gleaming.
A second of pushing through thick sheets of leaves and bushes, she finally finds her brother sitting alone in a flat rock, throwing tiny pebbles in the wide open lake.
She walked close to him and noticed his state of undeniable depression. Its unusual because Sokka doesn't show much of this and he rarely gets up in the middle of the night. The thought of him being depressed made her worry, she never wants to see him like that, not even once. Whenever they had a huge fight, she would always stop when its going too far. She didn't want small fights break they're sibling relationship and she would certainly never want to endanger each other from crazy stuff happening to them every day. Of course Sokka will do the same. No doubt, for his priorities is to protect his little sister.
"Are you alright?" Katara asked.
"Yeah, why ask?"
"It's just that you look a little gloomy." Said Katara.
"Pff! Gloomy that's ridiculous. I don't do gloomy. I'm just checking if I can catch fishes at this river, you know, for a little midnight snack." Said Sokka, trying his best to hide his obvious despair by being goofy and humorous.
"By throwing pebbles at it?" Katara retorted raising an eyebrow. Sokka choked, there's no doubt katara knows he is dejected and that no matter what lie he tells her it wouldn't budge. So why try?
"So what's bugging you?" Katara asked sitting next to Sokka and gave all her ears on him.
"It's just that...this is the day Yue turned into the moon spirit." Katara winced, as if something immense popped up in her mind with great impact. Her memories from that day came and it's no doubt that it was the most frightful day of her life.
Not only did the fire nation wreaked havoc on their sister tribe but they also lost their beloved friend.
"I keep thinking about her, about what happened. I could have stopped her and she could still be here with me." Sokka said, his voice calm and serious.
"Sokka I know what you're feeling and I understand, but honestly Yue saved us all thanks to her sacrifice. She made the moon shine again and gave us all light and hope." Katara said, encouraging her brother.
Sokka nod his head seeing nothing but the mild darkened reflection on the water.
"Just remember her last words to you and I know the emotion your feeling now will be quenched." Katara said placing a hand on her brother's shoulder. Sokka turned his head to Katara and smiled.
"Thanks Katara. I really needed that." Sokka smiled warmly, then Katara went back to camp.
Sokka glanced back at the lonely river he was facing and recalled those last few words yue said before she left him.
"I will always be with you."
Sokka smiled and a tear dripped on his left eye, quickly wipping it off and he stood up still. He turned his head up the sky and noticed that the storm clouds faded and a perfect full moon rised to illuminate its glow across the land.
