CHAPTER I - "I hate him!!"
Creeeaak. Squeeak. Creeeaak. Squeeak.
Selestine Yark couldn't take it anymore. She just couldn't concentrate on the essay the teacher had assigned - 'Why I love Buckland'. The pain! She looked behind her, the source of the noise. Frodo Baggins! She should have known. He was leaning back on his chair, creating that creak squeak sound.
'Those Bagginses are really annoying!' she thought, and tried to block out the sound by humming.
Creeeaak. Squeeak.
She tried to concentrate again.
Creeeaak. Squeeak.
'Baggins, will you STOP that??' she hissed, glaring at the young hobbit behind her.
'Stop what??' Frodo gazed at her innocently with his blue eyes. Selestine fought the urge to bang her head on the desk.
'That infernal racket!!'
'What infernal racket??'
'The chair, you idiot! The chair!'
'But - but its fun!' Frodo whined.
'Just stop it! Can't you do it quietly?'
No reply. The creak squeak abruptly stopped and she breathed a sigh of relief. She flicked her black hair behind her shoulder and continued writing her essay.
Tap tap. Tap tap.
'WHAT NOW??!' she thought agitatedly, and turned around slowly, as if she expected to see an oliphaunt behind her. She wrinkled her forehead at the sight. Frodo Baggins was playing noisily with his quill. She turned around again and tried humming again.
Tap tap. Tap tap.
Selestine put her fingers in her ears.
Tap tap. Tap tap.
She tried singing softly.
Tap tap. Tap tap.
She closed her dark brown eyes and counted to ten.
Tap tap. Tap tap.
'FRODO BAGGINS..' she growled.
'What?' she heard in reply.
'Stop it.'
'Stop WHAT?'
'Your instrument of pai - I mean, quill, Baggins.. PLEASE stop that.'
'Why?' was the reply, but the tap tap stopped. She breathed another sigh of relief.
'Why?' Selestine heard again. She gritted her teeth.
'Because it annoys me.' she replied curtly.
'Oh. Okay,' Frodo said. 'Will you just leave me alone? I have to write an essay, and you're annoying me.'
Selestine fumed. How dare he say that she annoys him! HE was the one annoying her in the first place!! She slapped her forehead and harrumphed.
Actually, Frodo was pretty used to Selestine's hot temper. The two had been classmates ever since Frodo started school, which was years ago, and she always sat in front of him. He started writing and stopped every now and then to check if he heard his scribbling. No response. Not even a twitch. He relaxed and continued writing.
Selestine kept her ears on the watch. No noise. She sighed for the third time and dropped her guard. No more noise! Pure bliss. Seventh heaven. Cloud 9. Oh, rapture.
She was very glad indeed when the teacher told them to pass their essays and that school was over. She almost jumped for joy - it was the weekend! A whole 2 days without Frodo Baggins, and his annoying sidekick, Merry Brandybuck.
She went forward and passed the essay. She looked at Frodo desperately trying to finish his essay, and he looked up at her. Their eyes met for a moment and she looked away, flushed and muttering. She quickly went out of the school house and walked as fast as she can home.
Frodo Baggins must be the most annoying hobbit she ever met.
