REMEMBERING
Indiana, 1955
He remembers…
Coming to America as a young man with his family, eager to be an American and eager to adopt and embrace his new citizenship.
He remembers…
Meeting the woman who was so different from his cold and indifferent wife and who offered him a look at the possibilities she offered.
He remembers…
His two tent mates, one whom he claimed to despise but actually respected a great deal, because he knew that this man was a better doctor and person than he could ever be…
He remembers…
When she broke his heart, and, eh supposed, with it his mind. But he still loved her no matter what. He always would. So he sought her out…
He remembers…
The lies he'd had to tell the man he'd come to regard as friend of sorts, when he called from Indiana to brag about his new "assignment." The man had wished him best of luck in his future.
And now he thinks…
He wonders where they are now, those remarkable, special people that he'd known, as he sits in his hospital room, waiting for his medication and for when he'd be allowed to walk the grounds again. And he wonders what would have happened, if he'd never, ever, lost his mind over the woman he'd loved.
