The Purple Mist, A stranger arrives
Chapter One

***

Deep in the forest, a thick purple mist floats, an unrealistically sweet smell floating with it, luring in victims to trap. The townsfolk were very wary of the stories spread around this unusual mist, as many of them claiming a monster of terrifying looks and a horrifying roar that would scare children away. Although, none of these pitiful people knew the real secrets that were hidden deep inside this forest . . .

Finally! It has taken me hours to get to this small town, and even when I get here, nobody welcomes me! They stare at me, shaking their heads in disappointment. Did they expect me to bring them food, or money? I golly-hope they don't, I'm as broke as a badger!

"Hello, how are you?"
I hear people call to eachother.

"Good day, sir!"
Shopkeepers are shouting happily to other shops owners.

"How much for a loaf of bread?"
Small families or groups ask, warily.

"Anything from the trolley?"
Call the fat, well fed merchants.

"Have you heard of the stories?"
That was what stopped me in my tracks.

Stories? What stories? About what, possibly? I walked over to the voice I heard say the phrase, and ask them the same question I've been asking myself.

" . . . Where is everyone?"

. . . No reply? I asked again, louder this time, just incase they happened to not hear me the first time. "Did you hear me? Where is everyone?"

The old couple look at me warily, before opening their mouths with their cracked lips to answer. "They . . . " The old woman starts. "They what . . . ?" I replied anxiously.

"They are all gone."

"Gone? All of them? Just . . . Gone? How is that even possible?" I said, a little scared. The couple looked at each other, as if constipating if they should continue. "Well, young lad, it all started like this . . . "

"Once upon time, there was a small village teeming with people. Young people, old people, they were everywhere. It was amazing, all the happy smiles, all the joyful expressions. It was truly the best thing I could ask for." The old lady sighed, looking at her partner, her voice becoming darker and quieter.

"But then, a mysterious purple mist started the flow around, and very few days, some poor family would weep because someone from their family had disappeared. Each day, the missing amount of people would rise, and the purple mist would grow thicker." The woman's voice was creeping the crap out of me by this point!

Soon, whole families would disappear without a trace. Legend has it, in the place the purple mist flows from, a beast of terrifying features lurks, sucking in victims and killing them slowly. Soon, the whole town lived in fear of the creepy murderer . . . "

Kaito's POV

I laid in bed, the words of the old woman running through-out my brain. Killing them slowly . . . Families disappearing . . .terrifying features . . . It just didn't fit! I turned over, facing the window, watching the forest, as if I was expected something, or someone, to show up. Minutes passed. Hours passed. Still, nothing in the forest has changed.

My eyes started to droop, and I was starting to become tireder and tireder by the minute. "No, I must stay awake!" I said aloud, slapping myself awake, and forcing myself to look out the window. "Something must be coming . . . "

I nearly choked.

Right in front of the forest, a thick, purple fog was forming, coming closer to the town.
