"She'll be okay, right Rukia? She'll be fine, right?" Ichigo asked, more like pleaded, while holding the girls bloody body, while shielding her from the cold rain.
"She's fine. She h-has t-to be, right?" He insisted, trying to refuse the utterly painful truth that her eyes wouldn't open.
"ANSWER ME RUKIA!"
But she couldn't. Her voice had been replaced with choking sobs. He refused to look at her, to afraid to face reality. Instead, he stared down at the girl lying in his arms, who had just risked her life to save them both. He carefully brushed the blood soaked hair from her pale face.
"Why?" He whispered "Why did you do it? Did your life mean nothing to you?" He stared at the girl as if waiting for her usual careless "I'm sorry kurosakie-Kun" but nothing escaped her lips. Not even her strawberries scented breathe. Ichigo clenched her shirt tighter, shaking in rage.
"Why?" He screamed "Why did you leave me! Was I nothing to you? Or what about Tatsukie or the others? Were they nothing to you?" He lowered his gaze to look at his bloody shirt. He regretted blaming her for this, when he knew she also didn't want this either..
"This is my fault. If I was just strong enough, you wouldn't of had suffered."
Tears began to fall from his eyes, blending in with the rain. A few escaped and fell on the girl's colorless cheek, he watched as it trickled down into the corner of her mouth. He bent lower, to where his lips were just inches away from hers. He held his breath, afraid it would melt the lifeless beauty that lay still in his arms like a piece of art. He wanted to close the last gap, he wanted so badly to have his lips upon hers, but perished the thought.
'I shouldn't be able to reward myself, when I couldn't do a damn thing to save you.'
More tears began to fall when he realized he had just accepted the fact that she was gone forever. He began to shake his head franticly.
"No, no, NO! You're NOT dead, you're just-"
"Just what, king? Sleeping? You know damn well that she's-"
'SHUT UP!'
"You better accept the fact soon, king or you might go mad." His inner hollow chuckled.
'Leave me alone! You don't know what the hell you're talking about!'
"Whatever. But shouldn't you wake up now, king?'
His eyes fluttered open in a tinted car. He looked around himself, wondering how the hell he got to this place. Then realization struck, almost like a smack to the face. He had dozed off, accidentally replaying what had happened on that horrible day in his head.
He sighed and leaned his head against the window, watching the trees pass by in a blurr. Finally the car stopped and a nauseous feeling settled at the bottom of his stomach. The door was opened by the driver and Ichigo pulled his jacket tighter around himself before stepping out of the car. He scanned his surroundings. It was as gloomy and sad as he felt.
It was Orihime's grave.
