The Prayer of St. Francis

C.C knelt in front of the cross, the divine symbol of the deity and she prayed. She felt so small here, small and unworthy. The purity of the church was overwhelming. The very air hummed with a thousand unsung hymms and the silence seemed to be heavy with the weight of angels footsteps.

Why was it so quiet here?

C.C's very existence was an affront to the Lord, she was abhorrent in this place. But still she came and still she prayed. When people have no one to turn to for comfort they turn to God. C.C needed comfort now, despite her actions C.C had always been religious. Her Geass simply meant she had a debt to pay to sin. She was the grey angel of temptation, luring those with passionate hearts off the path and into the forest. But her soul had two aspects: her geass faced hell but her heart faced god.

I think I hear something approaching.

C.C squeezed her eyes together, afraid of what she might hear. A tear slid from her eyes and she internally screamed how sorry she was for starting all this. She began to pray.

Someone outside is screaming now.

The words of the prayer echoed from her former self, words she had spoken so many times before but never understood the meaning of until this moment.

"O Divine Master,

grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;

to be understood, as to understand;

to be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive.

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen."

Goodbye Lelouch.

AN: Angsty C.C is angsty. I thought the words of the prayer of St. Francis are really evocative of what (I believe) C.C wants to believe as Lelouch dies. Am I wrong? Lemme know! R&R
