Defying Gravity

'I wonder what would happen if I really could write my own fate.' I thought imaginatively. 'Well, if I could, I know exactly what I would write.' I pictured getting sucked by a purplish black vortex and appearing –as an anime person- in Fruits Basket, an extremely popular manga, and once an anime.

I sighed, my happiness disintegrated. "As if." I said to myself, and watched the stars.

.-.

Miru, whose name literally means 'To See', gets sucked into a different dimension. There, she loses her sight by an unknown person while unconscious, and must rely on the Sohma's to help her out. Wait, she has wings? Akito too? And this 'Hunter' guy, who is he? Apparently, someone with the power and resolve to kill those like Akito and Miru.

The worst part? Miru's friend Minbou is in on it. And she, too, has wings.

"Miru, I almost forgot. How do we pass through dimensions?"

"…A wish, Min. We make a wish."

No Good Deed

I was stupid.

I didn't think it through. I didn't think that I could possibly die –and I haven't even arrived at my actual destination yet! Only an hour ago I had left Furuba, to make sure Minbou knew where I was heading. Now, after being blown through the gate, I end up in Germany. Whatever happened to Amestris? Resembool? Central?

I was too late for that.

.-.

Miru, leaving behind pieces to a puzzle Min must complete, heads off to find Ed and Al in the world of Full Metal Alchemist. But Germany? She wasn't expecting that. Well, at least she can see this time, despite the fact that her arm is kind of… gone. Automail, anyone?

It's a race against time for Min to find all the pieces, put the puzzle together and decode a few simple sentences to find out where Miru went. The only thing she knows is that her friend is tracking the Hunter; playing his game.

A gunshot rang out. Splinters flew from the post right next to me, one cutting my cheek.

I froze.

"Now Girlie, let's play tag. You're it. Try to find me, before I get through 5 worlds, okay? Make this fun."

1. Japan, pre-Kira November, 2003

Give me a moment to go, 'what the hell?' at the air being blown onto my face. Not a breeze, someone was fanning me.

When sleeping, people don't fan themselves unconsciously.

From my minor experiences of waking up in strange places, I was obviously with some person who wanted me to wake up. I didn't want to, sleep is so addicting!!

"Oy…" that someone poked me in the cheek. I flinched and rolled over (in a comfy bed… fuzzy sheets) but attempted to remain in a semi-conscious state. My side stung slightly.

I got poked again, and decided it was time to open my eyes and get down to business.

HOLY MUFFINS OF CHOCOLATE GOODNESS!

Sorry for the sudden reaction, but I still need to get used to seeing anime/manga characters on a daily basis. Not to mention that this particular anime character was decently hot in the school kid kinda way.

Yeah, I'd like to introduce to you, Yagami Light.

Many a fangirl would say he's hot. I'll just settle with good-looking.

And I think he just called me sleeping beauty. But I wouldn't know, I don't speak Japanese.

Come to think of it, that was probably the compensation for flying to the Death Note world. After all, I had been blind in Fruit's Basket, I had lost my arm in FMA-Germany, so why not a language barrier in Death Note?

And here's another question for you; what happened to the little boy?

Light began asking me questions, which I simply ignored, sat back, and thought. I would somehow have to prepare a clue of sorts again for Min; after all, I'm in Death Note. Light could kill me at any moment. So this would require finding the perfect time to get away, as well as a place where I could fly off.

Locking the door to a room would be perfect. But I'll have to prepare the note before hand. Like in Germany, I'm only going to stay for 7 days before Min comes. So another 7 steps to a clue. I'll also have to make it different from the other puzzle; nothing should be the same.

I need a pen and paper.

I turned to Light.

"Just so you know, I can't understand a word you're saying. So I don't suppose you'd-- OW!" My side randomly had a muscle spaz. Joy.

Lifting up my shirt a little, I noticed bandages on my side. Which brought up the question again; was the boy alright? I could tell from the pain of where the wound was that I wasn't going to die unless I bled to death (which had almost become the case in Germany, so I knew what it felt like) so I wasn't really something to be concerned about.

Light seemed shocked. "Omae… English?"

Well, at least he could pronounce English well… Wait a minute, than a language barrier isn't the full exchange for going probably back in time as well as from Europe (1824) to Japan (200-something). What is up with that? Than what is the rest of the exchange?

It could be how tired I am right now. Or maybe there are some physical restrictions? I checked first my right arm, due to the experience in Germany, by rotating the shoulder, then seeing how high I could lift the arm.

Shit.

It appears that from having my arm ripped off about 4 days almost in a row, my nerves were damaged. Most likely. I'm not a doctor or anything, but it felt pretty numb as well. This was pleasant.

"What's wrong?" Light's accent was notable, but he was understandable. That's what he gets for being a genius.

"My arm. The nerves are strange." I was trying not to use my large vocabulary so much around him, to make it easier on his mind. He didn't seem suspicious of me at all, just a slightly calculating look, so maybe I hadn't hit the Kira era yet.

I hoped I hadn't. Light may be able to help me with the Hunter.

"Where am I?" I asked said teen.

"My house."

"What happened?"

"You saved a little boy and got shot. Sayu and I brought you here to help you recover. What's your name?"

Fake name, I thought. In case he tries to kill me with the Death Note later. "Jess." I said. No last name. It might not have even been a full name, which leaves me room to work.

"I'm Light Yagami. Nice to meet you," He did a half bow in the more American/European fashion, with one hand behind his back, which made me giggle a little.

A girl's voice came bounding up the stairs. "Light! Light!" A few more words were shouted, and Light opened the door for the dark haired girl who had helped bring me to their house, the same girl whom Light must have been walking with earlier. Sayu, I believe she was called.

My suspicions were proved correct when Light introduced her like a good little genius brother.

Sayu and Light chatted for a moment, Light most likely explaining my situation to her (the language barrier with most people, the nerve damage in my arm). In that moment though, I fell asleep.

When I awoke, an estimated 5 minutes later (though the clock said 20 minutes… whoa!) the room was empty. According to the aforementioned clock, it was about 10:25 am, which meant that if this was a school day, than both Light and Sayu were at school, and their father was at the police station. Their mom… well, I was never sure what she did during the day, but I think she was a stay-at-home mom, a housewife, if I may. The place was always spotless, according to Manga-Light.

Wherever she was, it was the perfect time to prepare the next puzzle. This one I was going to try to plan out a little more first, a week should do. If I don't want her here in a week, I'll extend the puzzle, or just replace it to make a new one.

You know what I said about planning it out?

Yeah, not gonna work.

I found a notebook and pencil conveniently on the table beside the bed (I guess Light heard what I said in my first sentence) and so decided to commence planning.

What was the most significant thing about Death Note?

Apples. Chocolate. Multiple toys. The note itself. Minbou was more into Death Note than she was FMA, so I could probably make this one a little more complicated than a few simple sentences.

Hmm… I got an idea.

During the dropping off of the first clue, I had realized what part of the compensation must have been. It was because I had glanced at myself in the large mirror beside my friend's bed.

I looked at least 7 years old. But I always looked younger than I was, so… maybe I was about 10 now? Did I lose 6 years off of my life?

Not to mention the physical restrictions on my left arm. I could only lift it so high, so when I encounter the Hunter (whom I still haven't yet met since Fruits Basket) I'll be certainly limited in fighting skill.

I wonder if I'll ever even meet up with the cruel person again.

Hell, I wonder if once I meet him, would I live? So far I have. As long as I provide entertainment for him, I guess.

It also crossed my mind how each time I enter a different dimension, I always end up meeting the star characters right away.

I snapped back to the present as I arrived in Death Note again. There was another spasm of pain in my side, and also my right wing… which was attached almost directly to the muscles in my shoulder blade and arm… Shit.

Well, that's just cheery. But how would I be able to fix that? If I go to a doctor, they might discover my wing as well, then I'd have to leave and never come back, and I won't be able to catch the Hunter before he causes any more damage to the D.Angel world, and—

My thoughts were cut short by a soft knocking on the door. It opened just after I managed to shove my wings away, and Sayu stepped through with a bowl of soup and a grocery bag full of something that resembled a lump of cloth. My genius-16-year-old-mind deducted that it was most likely clothes.

Of course, I was right.

With barely a word in her native tongue, Sayu placed the bowl of soup on the bedside table, handed me the bag, and motioned for me to get back in bed—she had that sort of motherly aura, which compelled me to simply let someone else do the thinking for once.

The soup was delicious—in fact, it was actually chowder, not soup. From what I knew of Rhode Island/Block Island sea food (courtesy of my Aunt & cousins) it was really awesome.

The bag consisted of an outfit of Sayu's old clothes: jeans, a red t-shirt, some (new) underclothes, socks, and some rundown sneakers. Once I was dressed (the clothes fit fairly well, the shirt was a little loose, though) I headed downstairs to figure out When I was, since I already knew the Where, not to mention Who.

There was a newspaper on the table. Unfortunately, it was all in Japanese.

Light's mom was in the kitchen—I didn't feel like meeting her yet. Sayu should be in school right now, along with Light, their father is probably at work, no doubt.

An idea flickered in my head. One to see if Light has the death note or not yet, or if he just simply has a diary… I headed upstairs to Light's room, pulling open the top right-hand drawer and looking through it.

Papers. A pen. An eraser. Nothing interesting.

I removed the contents of the drawer, placing it all neatly on the desk and taking the shaft of the pen out. I kneeled down and peeked under the drawer, finding no marks.

So Light didn't have the Death Note yet. Well, I at least confirmed that his secret drawer was currently non-existent, as he had built it not long after Ryuk arrived.

Generally, I assumed that the year was 2003, some time before he found the Death Note in November. I couldn't judge too well by the weather, seeing as I spent a good week in Europe (where it's usually humid) and I came from Canada, where it's definitely colder than these places.

What to do, what to do?

I suppose I could just wait until Light got home. Then I could ask the date.

Sighing with frustration at my physical condition, I lay back on the pillows and closed my eyes.

A/N: It kind of took a while to get this out... heheh, sorry. I sincerely apologize to whoever actually reads this. I'm getting paranoid that no one actually reads this anymore because I take too long to update and because I'm using too many different anime's.

Both are logical reasons.

Speaking of which, I had a request a while ago asking if I were going to do Naruto. I suppose I could add in a one-shot somewhere.

If I ever get the motivation to do so.
