I don't own the Harry Potter series or the characters in this fan fic, but it would be awesome if I did. Please review and I hope you like the story. :)
Finally Understanding
And as Nagini sunk her teeth into Severus Snape's neck, Hermione suppressed a scream of terror. She couldn't believe that the man that had made her life at Hogwart's partially miserable whenever she was in his presence, was being killed by a stupid snake. And as Voldemort left the Shrieking Shack, she was in shock. She had always thought of Snape as a deeply horrible man, but even so, she never hated him. Not when he was cruel to her, not even when he made comments about her appearance or her potion skills.
And as Harry went over to the snarky, sarcastic man she had grown to tolerate, she didn't know what to do. But when she would think about it when she was older, she would realize that there was so much she could have done, from using Dittany to using magic to heal him. She would realize that she had been stupid not to do anything.
But when Harry went to that dying man, all she could do was to watch him die. When the memories flooded from his body, she finally regained herself and walked over to Harry and handed him a conjured a flask. She handed it to Harry so that he could put some of the memories into it. When it was filled to the brim, the potions master said his last words, using all of his strength. "Look..at...me..." he whispered. And then he spoke no more.
I couldn't understand it. This man, a man that had always seemed so strong, so indestructible, was gone. I would never hear his snide comments, see his cloak flow after him like giant bat wings. I would never hear him again. I didn't understand why seeing this man dead made me feel so empty, like loosing a friend. This man was definitely not my friend, not even an acquaintance, but seeing his corpse, his blood-soaked robes, hurt me deeply. But then I understood it. This man had been there, every day I had been at Hogwarts, seeing him had become routine, hearing his mean comments had hurt, of course, but they had still become routine.
With nothing left for us to do in this room, we crawled back into the hole that led back to Hogwarts, and all the while, I couldn't stop thinking about that man. In that tunnel, it finally understood something else.
She realized that she had grown to love the man, I mean she loved Ron, but she loved Snape a different way. She couldn't see herself having a family with him, but she still love him in a way. But those thoughts left her mind as they were nearing the light of the moon at the end of the tunnel. They left the tunnel and went back to the castle. And the walked up the steps to the big oak doors and walked in. Before she could think about Snape, she saw something that she never wanted to see, Tonks and Lupin Laying near Fred's body, with the rest of the Weasley's standing around Fred.
And in that moment, nothing mattered, but going to the Weasley's and crying, uncontrollably over Fred's body. She felt Ron's arms wrap around her, but she felt like nothing mattered anymore, except avenging Fred and all the others that had died.
