Empty Space

Prologue

The rain began beating harder on the window. I looked out the window to see a dark night covered by dark clouds. The lights of Los Angeles spread out into the distance. The rain was unusual, to say the least. Thunderstorms in the middle of June. I thought it was nothing. After all, it had been raining a lot more in SoCal recently. That night, however, was different. The rain fell with a little bit more aggression. A little bit more haste. A little bit more acid. It took me a while to realize. Precious time. I could have done so much more. Then a bright burst of light. Fire all over L.A. I didn't know how to react. I stood and watched as the explosions grew bigger and louder. Then the lights went out. The screaming began. Earth was being judged.
