Someday Soon

Disclaimer: I don't any thing that is familiar. It's way too normal of recognizable for me to buy it from their owners. If it was weirder I would be thrilled to bid for it though.

Ace sat on the floor of the big semi-empty room; Luffy lay in his diaper and blanket next to him.

"No! I won't have all this nonsense! I will go, I will go, and you will NOT!"

"Why can't I? I know you will send everything we need, but I don't want to just live here raising two boys without them having a father! I want to go with you, go on the seas with you! Why can't I?"

"I'll not have you going on the oceans with me or anyone! And were I to take you, what would happen to the children? How can you just abandon like that? Who would look after them while we're gone, even if we paid the person a thousand beli a month for their work?!"

Of course not! How could you say something like that? We would take them with us and they would grow up on the ship with us!"

"Absolutely NOT! Our children will not, cannot, and will NEVER be growing up on a ship with all those perils! I can't believe you would be that willing to raise our children with death!"

"You horrible man! How could you say something that cruel!" Ace heard their mother begin to break down. A moment later she ran past with tears streaming down her face and her fists clenched. "I hate you, you BAKA!"

Ace flinched as she ran out of the small cottage and down the path. There were marines in the village who were plundering worse than the pirates who frequented the bars and inn along the coast.

"Papa, papa, what will happen to Mami if the marines get her when she reaches the shops?" He asked his father who had just entered the room with a haggard expression and a sad continence. The big man snapped up his head up to look over, his ebony hair flipped by his face with the motion. His tanned face looked stricken for a moment, then angry.

"Let her go, if she doesn't want to be anywhere around us anymore, than we won't go to help her anymore," he snarled caustically towards the empty doorway still splattered with her tears on the ground.

"But isn't Mami . . . why aren't you helping her? Don't you love her?"

"I thought I did. Watch your brother, if I'm not back by sunset then don't wait up, I won't be coming home." With the slightly cryptic words his father lowly walked out of the door.

Ace looked down to Luffy, who was curled around his legs and chewing on the blanket wrapped around his chubby little body.

Ace jerked awake from his spot on deck where he was sleeping.

'Ah, Luffy can you even remember them? now that their gone?'

Ace looked across the last stretch of water until Arabasta. 'I'll find you, little brother. We'll meet again, one of these days. Soon we'll be together again. Someday soon.'

AN: This came to me in choir right before finals started and I was actually trying to write a Naruto piece for my friend to read without freaking out. Which she usually does when she reads fanfics because they have "weird, creepy stuff that disturbs me in it." But I came up with this instead and I like it so, 'good enough' I thought.
