This is where I'm gonna stash all the random bits of SEAL Team stuff I write. First up is a very brief missing scene that's set after 2x22, and therefore has vague spoilers for everything through the end of season 2.
You Are My Sunshine
Bravo has been back from deployment for two weeks when Clay finally asks Sonny to change the ringtone on his phone.
They've been hanging out a lot, making up for lost time, swapping stories and giving each other shit, and Sonny has noticed that Clay gets a little twitchy every time Sonny's phone rings. He thinks that over and can't come up with any obvious cause for it, so decides maybe he's imagining things.
But then Spenser asks him to change the ringtone, and the kid's body language is a dead giveaway that something is off. His eyes get all skittery and he hunches his shoulders a little like he does when he's embarrassed or ashamed about something.
Sonny sets the phone aside. He leans forward. "Talk to me," he says firmly.
Clay sighs. "In Manila," he says, and pauses, like he's trying to figure out how to explain it. "The IED. I heard the phone ring."
The pieces fit together in Sonny's head. He bites back a curse. "The phone that set off the bomb?"
"Yeah. I heard a phone ring, turned toward it, saw a backpack…"
"Boom," Sonny says quietly.
Spenser nods. "Boom."
"And my ringtone sounds like that phone."
Clay's gaze darts away again. "Yeah, kinda does." He quickly adds, "It's not like I have flashbacks or anything. I just … I guess it reminds me and-"
"Clay. It's okay." Sonny's voice is soft. "I understand."
Spenser meets his gaze, and whatever he sees seems to convince him. He relaxes. The conversation moves on.
Sonny changes his ringtone to a recording of a very drunk Brock singing "You Are My Sunshine" to Cerberus.
It makes Clay smile every time.
