Hey everyone. This story was brought to you by OTP Boot Camp on A Series of Unfortunate Events Fanfiction Challenges. I wrote for the pairing of Dewey Denouement/Kit Snicket with the first prompt of this series being word number 36. standstill. Warning that the characters may be a bit out of character. This is my first time writing for this Fandom. I hope I did the characters some justice. I hope you all enjoy the first chapter of The World Stands Still.

Dewey remembers the first time he ever met Kit Snicket. He remembers these things like they were yesterday because to him it still does feel like it was yesterday that the dark haired girl first got placed into Prufrock Prep with her twin brother Jacques, and their little brother Lemony. He'd been sitting with his own brothers Frank and Ernest at the time.

"Look at them," Ernest muttered, "all skin and bones. They won't last a minute here at Prufrock. Don't you agree, Frank?"

"I don't know," Frank murmured as he studied the trio who seemed to be quietly taking in everyone in the room. "There seems to be fire in them. Or at least one or two of them."

"I think it's..." Dewey was cut off like he always was by his brothers bickering among each other. Sighing he stood up and made his way over to the newcomers. He'd try and be as welcoming as he could be and see what happened. A smile stretched his face as took them in. The two boys shared the similar feature of their dark hair but that seemed to be where the similarity ended. They seemed to have different color eyes and the younger of the two seemed much more tense than the older. But it was the girl who took his breathe away from Dewey. She had a similar dark hair to her brothers but blue eyes as opposed to their dark ones. "Hello. I'm Dewey Denouement. You must be the new students we were told to expect. Welcome to Prufrock Prep."

"I'm Kit," the girl says all fire and for Dewey it feels like the word is at a standstill and nothing matters but Kit.

Her brothers introduce themselves and he tries to be attentive to them while keeping his eyes on Kit. It feels as though nothing else in his world mattered any more. Or for that fact never would matter again.

I hope you all enjoyed the first chapter of The World Stands Still.
