Lieutenant Codder: Prologue

Lieutenant Codder hefted his M7 Lancer assault rifle. He carefully aimed and let loose a quick burst. He heard a small cry of pain batter uselessly against the ringing gunshots. He quickly ducked back into cover, waited a few seconds and then quickly poked out from cover to survey the situation. He could just make out the tip of a shoulder coming from behind a thick pillar northwest of the doorway he was currently using for cover. He drew a grenade from his belt and carefully threw it to the left of the pillar, he immediately detonated it. He saw a flash of light, heard a large bang, and he watched a limp body flew across his field of vision. That was the last of them.

Lieutenant Codder was part of an alliance strike team that had been tasked with destroying a small pirate complex on the planet Gorsalis. His team had entered the complex and was brutally attacked, but not before they killed more than 7/8 of the pirates. Now, Lieutenant Codder was the only one left alive in the complex. For the past 10 minutes Lieutenant Codder had been playing a game of cat and mouse with the last remaining pirate, which he had just won. Lieutenant Codder hastily opened a com channel and let the SSV Boston (the alliance frigate his strike team was assigned to) know of the tragedy that had just taken place. The Boston let him know they were coming in for a landing next to the complex. While Codder waited he searched the complex for anything useful. When the Boston arrived 7 men immediately entered the complex. They told Codder to head to the ship infirmary, to which he willingly complied. Besides his team had cleared the base, his job was done.

"You certainly are odd for a soldier" Doctor Heikel seemed amused "most of our fighting men and women can't be bothered to report to the infirmary"

"I don't mind it doc, everyone needs to be patched up sometimes" I said sincerely.

"Now that is a good attitude, say you wouldn't mind hanging around Corporal Keyes would you? You might rub off on him; poor bastard refuses to even take some morphine"

"Sorry doc he's not my type" I said humorously. I have found it easy to banish my woes with a little humor. Best friend dies, do a comedy routine instant instant pick me up. What the hell is wrong with me? Once the doctor was finished I headed back towards my quarters.

As I walked back towards my quarters I couldn't help but marvel at the Boston. The Boston was a frigate that's design was a finished version of the Prototype SSV Normandy, which was now used by the hero of the citadel and the first human Spectre, Captain Sheppard. Captain Sheppard was promoted for his heroic actions at the battle of the citadel. He was an amazing fighter; I just wish someday I could be like him. Heck I may even met him; we are headed back to the citadel to give a debriefing to the council on the defeat of the ruthless pirate group "Kronos". The Boston has been on a campaign to quell Kronos. The base on Gorsalis was the last remaining Kronos base, now that it was gone, mission complete I guess. By now I had reached my sleeper pod, I climbed in and said goodnight.
