Author's Note: Sorry I haven't been writing much lately. I've got some assessments coming up, so I haven't had much time. This is just a little idea that popped into my head. I hope it doesn't offend anyone.

Origins

"So what you're saying," said the boy, "is that your race is better than everyone else's."

"THAT IS CORRECT," replied the Dalek. "DALEKS ARE SUPREME. ALL OTHER SPECIES ARE INFERIOR, AND MUST BE EXTERMINATED."

"You mean killed?" asked the boy. "Isn't that wrong?"

"DALEKS DO NOT HAVE A CONCEPT OF RIGHT AND WRONG," said the Dalek. "THERE IS ONLY WHAT IS NECESSARY FOR THE SURVIVAL OF THE DALEKS, AND THAT IS COMPLETE EXTERMINATION OF ALL OTHER SPECIES." The boy cocked his head to one side.

"Then how come you didn't exterminate me?" he questioned.

"YOU POSSESS DALEK QUALITIES," answered the Dalek. "YOU WOULD MAKE A GOOD DALEK."

"Er, thank you," said the boy. "So you travel all over the world and take over all these other places, just like that?"

"AS YOU SAY, JUST LIKE THAT," confirmed the Dalek. "AS PROOF OF OUR SUPREME POWER, WE HAVE DEDICATED OUR LIVES TO THE EXPANSION OF THE DALEK RACE ALL ACROSS THE UNIVERSE."

"But surely you must have had help along the way," reasoned the boy. "You can't have done it all by yourself?"

"OCCASIONALLY, WE HAVE HAD ASSISTANCE," admitted the Dalek. "THE TIME LORD KNOWN AS THE MASTER HAS ALLIED HIMSELF WITH US SEVERAL TIMES, AND WE HAVE MADE USE OF THE PRIMITIVE RACE KNOWN AS OGRONS AS SLAVES. BUT ULTIMATELY, THE CONQUERING OF OTHER PLANETS AND EXTERMINATION OF OTHER SPECIES HAS BEEN THE DIRECT RESULT OF THE POWER OF THE DALEKS." The boy couldn't help but smile dreamily.

"The power to claim other places as your own," he whispered. "And to decide which of God's creatures should live or die. You must be so happy."

"DALEKS HAVE NO CONCEPT OF HAPPINESS," said the Dalek. But the boy wasn't listening. He felt something stir inside him, something that he couldn't explain. It was as if his life suddenly had a purpose. Just then, his mother called him from the house.

"My son, what are you doing?" she asked.

"Talking to the Dalek, Mutti," replied the boy. His mother nodded and went back inside, where her husband was waiting.

"He's talking to his imaginary friend again," she said. Her husband grunted.

"Our boy is eight years old – he's too old to have imaginary friends," he insisted. "I ought to beat some sense into him."

"Oh Alois, don't be so dramatic," said his wife. "An imaginary friend might not be ideal, but I'm sure it's not doing him any harm. In any case, he seems to be enjoying himself a lot more since he made up Dalek." She looked at the clock on the wall, and realised that it was about time her son was inside.

"Thank you for talking to me," the boy said to the Dalek. "Aufwiedersehn." The Dalek turned and rolled off. Just then, the boy's mother came out into the garden.

"Okay, that's enough. Come inside," she said. The boy nodded and slowly walked up to his mother.

"The Dalek is very wise," he said. "He's been telling me about the Dalek race. They're the most powerful race in the universe! I wish I could be like the Daleks."

"That's nice," said his mother, uninterested. "Now come inside, Adolf."

That turned out shorter than I expected, but I hope it was still okay.
