Ho'oma'ema'e ke Hula

AN: Kala is a 12 year old Hawaiian changed by Esme, not Carlisle. Her story will unfold. Also, I altered the physics of vampires a little. I DON'T OWN TWILIGHT, or Hawaii. I only own Kala. Review? I would like to continue this. Translation of the title is Purify the Hula. Ho'oma'ema'e is the closest I could find to 'Sanctify' in Hawaiian.

(Kala's POV)

My Hawaiian heritage would always stay with me, I decided. I was Native, with once brown eyes (they were almost topaz now), olive skin, and hair the color of dying roses. As a child, and a Hawaiian one at that, I was always taught to sanctify the Hula. As in, let the anger go, keep your thoughts pure. The Hula was the rhythm of Hawaii.

But now I was with a bunch of Anglo, Mainland vampires. I was very quiet around them, shy because I was homesick and depressed most of the time. I wanted to be human again, and I wanted to go back to Kauai.

"Kala, you're coming hunting with me." Esme announced.

My eyes widened.

"No... please no..." I whispered.

Oh good G-d. I thought.

I sighed and regretfully followed her to her car. I really didn't want to go. I sat down in the passenger seat, pulled my knees close to me and rested my chin there daintily. My stomach hurt; Carlisle said that was normal when you're a newborn, it can happenfrom a kind of venom shock. I'd thrown up only a couple times since I was changed, though.

"Are you nauseous?" she asked understandingly.

I nodded.

"It'll pass," Esme said gently, moving the hair out of my face. "Tell me if you're going to be sick."

I nodded again, closing my eyes. I didn't want to throw up. Esme stroked my hair in a sort of maternal way for a second, then sighed sadly and kept driving.

"It's only a dream, it cannot hurt you there." A man's voice said distantly in my memory. "I hope we meet eachother again."

I heard a small toddler girl's voice, not possibly more than 3. "Daddy! I love you!"

"Forever and ever, sweet girl." The man whispered, is voice pained. "I love you."

The rain fell hard outside, and I longed so badly to sleep. My throat burned with thirst, however, so I was sadly reminded that it wasn't possible. If only.
