Nightmares

It had only been a week since that sign on the wall and Mrs. Norris had been petrified. I insisted that she stay in the hospital wing, under Madame Pomfrey's watch. I had been having the same nightmare for about four nights. I was being chased by a big scary beast with no legs, and it kept trying to bite me. It said strange things like,

"Let me rip you"

I have never had such horrible nightmares in my life.

I tried writing to Tom about my dreams, but nothing he said consoled me.

One night, I got so scared that I hopped right out of bed. I didn't want to wake Hermione, and Ron was tired from being up with Hermione and Harry. I knew they were doing something, because I had waited up for them. I couldn't wake Fred and George, they were very sound sleepers.

Then it came to me.

Why not wake Percy? He was always good to me when I had nightmares at home, why would he be any different now?

I crawled to my trunk to put a robe over my night-gown. I then put my pale feet into my pink fuzzy slippers and walked into the common room. I went into the boys dormitory, where Percy was sleeping and walked over to his bed, shivering. A crack sounded in the common room and I jerked around, thinking the giant animal was slithering after me. Before all of my draining courage left me, I bent down and poked Percy's head.

"Percy?" I whispered, "Percy wake up. I'm scared."

Percy snapped awake as soon as I poked him. HE sat up and looked around, eventually seeing my form in the darkness.

"Ginny? What are you doing out of bed? You really should go back to sleep."

I explained to Percy my nightmare and then I sat down on his bed, fear relighting its horrid, cruel flames in the pit of my churning stomach.

Percy sat up and put an arm around me.

"Ginny, if I've told you once, I've told you a million times at home that your nightmares are just dreams. If you really can't sleep, you can get something from Madame Pomfrey, or Professor McGonagall or something."

"But Percy, I dreamed of a giant snake-ish thing trying to eat me, and I was running! It was scarier than the ones I have at home. It felt….realer."

Percy sighed and flopped back onto his pillows, his red hair sprawling behind him. He looked like he was about to send me away to wake up Hermione, or Katie Bell, or someone else that I know, or maybe ask Madame Pomfrey for Drowsiness Draught. Instead, he got up from his bed and sat me on the edge of it.

"Look Ginny, I can't let you stay here, this is the BOYS dorm, in case you hadn't noticed."

"Oh but Percy, it's too scary in the girl's dorm, they all are really deep sleepers, if someone came to kill me, they wouldn't wake up!"

But I refused to leave, no matter how long Percy begged me. The moon was right outside the window, and the light was right in my eyes. I flopped into Percy's bed and I felt safe for the first time since the letters on the wall.

Percy finally agreed to let me sleep there, and for the rest of the night, until sunrise, I had dreamless sleep.

I felt rested for the first time in ages.

I was safe.

All was good.

I knew it.
