Dawn sat quietly in her bean bag chair, book resting in her lap. Her attention though was elsewhere, dual colored eyes flickering up at her teacher, sitting at the table not far from her. His hair was pulled back into a high ponytail, soft lilac hair spilling over his shoulders in a curtain. She watched as he slowly moved a piece across the board on the table, although his main focus was on his own book, one on the semantics of magic. He didn't actually need it and she knew that, he was just reading it to see if he could break it down further for her. She had to have it simple, otherwise her massive amounts of unstable magic could spiral out of control and cause a disaster. That tended to end quite badly, really. Hell, just learning basic levitation had ended her with a broken arm and a gap in the training room's floor.
The purple haired girl snaked her magic out as she turned a page idly. Her magic coiled around the board, sparking lightly here and there as she made her move. The soft red and blue hued magic flees the board and leaves it in its black and white colors once more while she stares up at her teacher, his red eyes flicking up to look at the board. And as he did, the red orbs connected with mismatched eyes on the other side of the table, Dawn recognizing the distant look that those bloody orbs held. He was thinking of other things rather than the simple game and spellbook he was going through, and for once in her life, Dawn couldn't blame him. He always had more on his mind than he needed to, she could tell, even if he insisted otherwise. She was an exceptionally smart child, under that happy go lucky exterior, after all.
Dawn sighed loudly, rolling over in her beanbag and letting the book tumble to the ground while she stared at the soft blue carpet that coated the floor. A gentle breeze of magic righted the book beside her as Vaati plucked it up and shut it, remarking softly from his spot. "You're bored. If you've lost interest in the lesson, mayhaps you should go and play in the courtyard?" It was a soft jab, but a subtle offer to be dismissed early, something he didn't offer often. He was definitely pondering something important, but she was a child after all. She'd take playing outside over reading a book for hours on end!
The tiny child rolled to her feet, popping her neck as she bounced on the floor. "Do you need anything? A hug maybe? You're kind of upset and you're probably thinking about the past.." She asks as she skirts the table to stand at his side, hands resting on his thigh. She peered up at him with kind eyes, despite her want to go and play, waiting for his reply.
Finally, with a grumpy breath and a snarky remark of "Shouldn't I be the one worrying about you?" he brushed his fingers through her hair, delivering the strands away from her mismatched eyes. "You worry far too much about me, and not enough about yourself, child." Vaati says idly, running his fingers through her hair some more while she puffs her cheeks out childishly. A tired sigh escapes the mage as he stares down at the child. "Go play, Dawn. We'll continue our lesson later." He says dismissively, gesturing towards the library door with one hand.
"Alright. Have a nice day, Vaati. Don't think too hard." Dawn chirps, turning and bounding out of the library.
