title: for himself.
summary: Katou is selfish. It isn't as bad as it seems.
notes: A short drabble to get warmed up to the Angel Sanctuary fandom. I'm only up to Vol 7, so I don't know anything beyond this. I did Katou because he's one of my favorite characters.
Katou is weak, he knows. It's not something he likes about himself, but due to the very nature of his weakness, neither does he have the will to change it. He can't make his own decisions, which is why he was in Kira's gang and didn't start his own. And he suspects that it's probably the reason that he didn't even have the guts to die of his own free will—knowing, instinctively, that he would die, and accepting it.
Setsuna had to do it for him.
And now he's dead, although it isn't exactly what he'd expected. He'd expected—well, nothingness. Not a body—even a spiritual one—and he certainly hadn't expected making a friend.
Funny, how he's come to regard Mudou—Setsuna—as a friend.
But that's what happens when you sacrifice yourself for a person not only once, but twice. Or you're going to, anyway.
There's a bond, there, however vague and messed up. From what he sees, the whole universe is pretty messed up anyway, so it's really not such a big deal. Better to die for a good cause than live for a half-assed one; if Setsuna hadn't killed him, he probably would've smoked or fought himself to death anyway, out of the sheer pointlessness of his life.
Yes. Definitely better this way.
As he dies again, for Setsuna Mudou himself, he smiles.
Because he's finally learned to do things for himself.
xx
