Disclaimer: I do not own Mello or Matt, or Death Note, sadly..

Number One?

Mihael Keehl better known as Mello, wore tight black leather clothing, something that stood out when he usually just wanted to fit in. The only colour standing out of his clothing was the white belt, geared with a silver, Christian cross buckle, hanging from his neck was a red rosary hanging around his neck. The scar on his face was glowing on tanned skin, bright green eyes stood out mostly, to show the tough side of Mello. Mello had shoulder length golden hair, a blonde colour that brought the soft side to Mello. Mello was a fighter, a winner, a successor of L… and a lover of chocolate.

Mail Jeevas formally known as Matt, wore fairly different clothing than Mello. Matt wore a black and white long sleeved t-shirt. A tan vest with white fur at the bottom and around where his arms would go through. His blue jeans had faded sort of stripes down to his feet. His yellow tinted goggles lay around his neck, resting against his chest, eyes focused on the screen of his Nintendo DS. Matt had dark red hair, not as long as Mello's but just to his neck, brushing the skin, his dark green eyes stood out more than anything else of his features.

Mello munched on his chocolate, his feet resting over the arm chair of the sofa, whilst his head lay on Matt's lap as he watched the gamer frown and yell at his Nintendo.

'What are you playing Matty?' Mello asked curiously, Matt grunted and pressed the 'start' button, pausing the game to look down at the man on his lap.

'Pokémon, why?'

Mello laughed loudly and covered his mouth with his glove covered hand, laughing into it as the gamer stared down at him, completely confused.

'What's funny?' Matt asked, raising a red eyebrow as Mello got up and rested his head on Matt's furry vest.

'You.' Mello said softly.

'I hardly find gamers funny, Mel.' Matt said, but smiled nonetheless, pressing the start button. 'Oh you little shit! My Pokémon isn't even healed!'

A little tune played through the silent room as Mello just smiled at Matt and how he destined to kick the other gamers arse.

'Matt, why am I always number two?' Matt narrowed his eyes at the screen, but Mello couldn't be sure if he was also irritating the gamer.

Matt turned to the chocolate addict and smiled slightly, setting his game to the side as he let it play on.

'Mel, you're not number two all the time.' Matt said, leaning in and kissing Mello's temple, resting his own head against Mello's whilst he touched the chocoholic's knee.

'But, Near is always number one, Matt. When do I ever compare to him, when does anybody praise me, tell me I'm good at something, he just sits and plays with his toys, the unemotional little bastard.'

Matt chuckled slightly.

'Mello, you're not number two, you shouldn't be jealous of Near, Near is a child at heart, of course he'll be praised, then he'll try harder, you're older than Near, Near needs the praise, he needs to get in touch with himself, to actually understand a case and put himself into it. Be the heart of the case like you and I are.' Matt smiled at his own words, 'And Mel, if it's any consolation, you're always number one to me.' Matt picked up his game and continued to play, whilst Mello sat still smiling against Matt's shoulder, Matt's head against his own.

That's good enough for me, Mello thought.
