Salvation

A/N: Sorry its so short. I'm new to this so I'm dipping my foot in before taking the plunge.
"When does the plane get here?" Ivy asked. We were standing just inside the entrance to the airport. My brother, Robbie, was flying in to celebrate our mom's birthday. I had no idea why I had gotten drafted to pick him up. Robbie and I hadn't spoken in years. Ever since our disagreement about me joining the I.S. our relationship had been non-existent. Yet here I was waiting for his plane.
"It lands at four," I answered watching Jenks barter with a saleswoman for a better price on fern seeds. Matalina had been sick recently and it didn't look like she would be getting better. The fern seeds would help, but I was worried that we were just delaying the inevitable. Pixy's only had a life span of 20 years. Matalina had turned 19 several months ago.
As if reading my thoughts, Ivy nodded and stepped up to where Jenks was. "C'mon Jenks. The plane will be landing soon," she interrupted.
Giving up on getting the price lowered, Jenks flew over to land on my shoulder without a word. He had been unusually quiet and distant lately. I knew it was worry over Matalina but it bothered both Ivy and me. When Matalina died, Jenks probably wouldn't be far behind. We didn't want to lose him.
When we got to our terminal I sat in one of those uncomfortable plastic chairs. I could see the plane coasting along the landing strip. It wouldn't be long before the passengers unboarded.
Instead of sitting down, Ivy chose to remain standing, hovering somewhere behind my chair. It made me uncomfortable but I wasn't going to ask her to move. She had been edgy since we'd entered the airport. I didn't know why but I figured I'd give her space and if it was important she would tell me. I jumped when her hand appeared in front of my face with a small package in it.
"Here put this in your purse," she said dropping it in my lap. I picked it up to see that it was fern seeds. I turned to look back at her. She just shrugged looking embarrased. I chose not to say anything. I hadn't seen her do it, but I knew she had stolen them after Jenks had been unable to negotiate a good price.
"Your brother just got off the plane," Jenks muttered. I shifted so I could see him. He had a look of graitude directed at Ivy. She pretended not to notice. Shaking my head at the two of them, I stood and waved to Robbie.
After returning my wave, he started in our direction. I met him halfway and after an awkward few seconds we settled on a handshake in greeting. Gathering his suitcases we left the airport and got into my car, Ivy trailing behind us.
A/N: I know there is an extreme lack of Jenks in this chapter. This will probably continue for a few chapters yet. I don't think I'm very good at writing for him so I'm not happy with anything I try. Once I iron out the kinks, Jenks will have a main role in the story. Thank you for reading. Please review. Contructive criticism is very welcome.
