The first thing that happened was that the Warden told me that my mother was dead. I acted grateful and wanted to believe him, but I didn't. He gave me her book which I started studying, wanting to know everything that my mother had not wanted me to know. With the new knowledge my magic grew stronger. I felt invincible, even though I knew that is just foolishness. Everyone can be defeated.
The next thing that happened was I heard Leliana singing. I had heard her singing before but this was different. Everything and everyone in the camp stopped and simply listened to the falling and rising of Leliana's voice. Even that brute of a mabari stopped growling and simply laid down to listen.
Hahren na melana sahlin.I tried to breathe normally, but it was so breathtakingly beautiful.
Emma ir abelas.I turned my head to get a good look at her, as she was singing. I almost wished that I could go closer but I couldn't. Souver'inan isala hamin.I closed my eyes, just listening to her voice. Vhenan him dor'felas, in utherera na revas. A single water droplet slid down my cheek which I wiped away angrily. Vir sulahn'nehn, vir dirthera, vir samahl la numin, vir lath sa'vunin. It was almost a relief when she stopped singing. It was in elven, a language I did not speak but the last phrases I understood and they echoed inside my aching chest. We laugh and cry; we love one more day.
I started believing. Flemeth was dead. Flemeth was dead.
I approached her carefully the next day as she was sitting by her tent; the nug sleeping peacefully on her lap. My girl. She looked up when I slowly walked towards her. She was surprised that I came to her while there was still sunlight out, I was surprised myself. But I was free, Flemeth was dead, I could do what I wanted. 'Twas a strange thought, but true nonetheless.
"Hello," she said and smiled like only she can, "it is a beautiful day." Not as beautiful as you. I sat down next to her, ignoring the curious looks from the others. Leliana kept looking at me and I smiled at her wondrous face.
"Indeed it is," I said and lifted my head, letting the sunlight hit my face.
