It was dark. He lethargically stumbled through the streets of the small town. He still memorized every cross, every turn, and where all the shops were. Every small lamppost along the way lit up the familiar orange hat shadowing over a pale face dotted with freckles.
Ya, you've been alone,
He stopped at a bar. The doors were creaking in the midnight breeze. Those doors. They gave him memories that left him nostalgic. It looked fairly new though, new paint job, new sign. He smiled and continued to his destination.
I've been gone for far too long.
He turned left and continued down the block. "The town hall," He stopped and looked up. The white marble building, still shone in the dark night, a symbol of the small yet glowing town. He kept on walking.
But after all that we've been through,
He finally stopped at his destination. He looked at the small house. The place he grew up in. He sighed. After he finally gathered up the courage (and the power to overpower the butterflies in his stomach) and stuck the key in the door. It fit perfectly.
After all this time I'm coming home to you.
The door swung open. He peeked in and saw a little boy in his pajamas holding a teddy bear with red eyes that shone in the moonlight staring up at him. It was obvious the boy had somehow heard him coming, because they arrived at the door the exact same time.
"Daddy?" The child walked up to him. He picked up the boy and hugged him tight.
His world was now complete.
