Title: She Didn't Wait
Author: inuyashagirl5
Rating: K+
Genre: General
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto. Naruto is owned by one half of the Kishimoto twins, Masashi Kishimoto to be exact. I'm only borrowing his characters to amuse myself and my readers.
A/N: Please excuse this tiny story. I wrote it back in 2006 and completely forgot about it until I was cleaning out my writing folders. It's from Sasuke's POV which is saying something, because since I wrote this, I've come to hate that annoying teme. Clearly this was written long before current story lines, so for my sake, let's just play pretend. X3
"You didn't expect her to wait for you, did you?"
Honestly, he had. He had always thought that when he had returned home that she would accept him with open arms. That she would still have that childish crush that she always had. He had wanted to tell her the truth about his feelings for her. He had wanted to accept her now and make her his wife and mother to his children. When had everything changed? When had Sakura fallen in love with someone else?
'You were gone for so long...how could she not forget about you?'
He watched her now. Her and her husband and the little toddler in her arms. She had moved on. She had married another man. She had given birth to a little girl that looked so much like her. He felt envious. He felt jealous. That should be him with her. That should be their daughter in her arms.
'But it's not. She slipped away from me. She moved on.'
He took it as a bit of a shock when she turned slightly. Her stomach was slightly rounded. Not only had she already had one child, but she was going to have another. How was he going to be able to get past this? His body was beginning to shake with rage as he watched them. They were a happy family apparently. She was laughing and smiling with her husband and daughter.
'He doesn't deserve her. He doesn't deserve her love. He doesn't deserve to smile like that at her.'
Naruto had warned him in advance that she wasn't the same Sakura he remembered. She had grown up and matured into something far more beautiful than he could have imagined she'd become. Something far more desirable.
'That son of a bitch doesn't deserve her. She is supposed to be with me. She is supposed to love me.'
He couldn't watch them anymore. That kind of happiness was just something he couldn't stand to see. He turned from the sight to come almost face to face with Naruto. Naruto's words rang through his head again. Yes, he had expected her to wait, but she hadn't. It was best now to try and move forward.
'Just like Sakura did. Move forward and don't look back. I will be alright...as long as she is happy.'
"Let's go get some ramen. We can meet up with her later." Naruto gestured towards the ramen shop with his thumb. Sasuke could only manage a short nod and followed after his friend, one of the few friends he really had.
'I can be happy for them.'
He took one last glance back at Sakura and smirked. Because of his absence, she had moved on, gotten married and was having kids with Kiba. That was something he didn't think he would ever see.
